Seti/BOINC Getting Started Thread

First you need a SETI@home account:

• If you ran the original SETI@home:
  Berkley has transferred your account.
  You must now re-activate your account.
• If you are new to Seti then: Create a new account.

At this point you can edit your preferences. The only thing I would change here is: Keep enough work on disk to last between { } and { } days Because you never know when the servers will go down, or act up.

Download:

• Now you can Download BOINC here.

Join The Liquidninjas.com BOINC team:

Go here.


Time to Install & Setup:

By now Berkeley should have e-mailed you your account ID.

Run BOINC click settings>attach to project...

Project URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
Account ID: *a bunch of letters and numbers that Berkeley sent you.

That's it! You are now running BOINC along with Liquidninjas.com

Very nice, I might suggest an addition or two.
1st there is a maximum wu limit per day of 50 per computer, if there is an error (such as too high of an oc) your woots. will return after a few minutes errored out. Unfortunatly it doesnt give any particular reason why. And with 3minut times you end up wondering why you have no work.

Your accound ID is your password as well. So its most likely not wise to hand it out.

what is seti and whats the difference between that and folding ??

Way to bring up a thread from the dead.
Seti = Search for Extraterrestial Intelligence, analyzes data recorded from a telescope. (I am not giving the name because I will miss spell it)

Folding at home analyses protiens to attempt to gather information concering how they "fold".

Either has ususaly bee a passion for most people.

Hi Dave

We are mostly concentrating on folding now. We are trying to make a push to get back into the top 100. I think we are at 109th at the moment - feel free to join. Every CPU brings us a bit closer to that top100 spot

im thinking of putting one of my rigs on here to help out its not much but im already folding on a team

I beg to differ Some of Us are only Conecntrating on SETI. I am Personally Trying to get to the number one spot.!!! and trying to get Liquid Ninja's Back int the top 1000, need all the help we can get.
