Lf A Pci Nic

This may be a long shot, but just wondering if any of you guys has an old (working) PCI NIC card laying around in a parts box or something ... one you wouldn't mind parting with?

I've been fixing my Aunt's computer and finally realized the NIC is dead. So it needs replacing, I figured I'd see if anyone has something laying around taking up space before I go spending money neither of us has LOL

Yeah, back in England I used to have my parts box that had tons of crap I could use right now LOL

Oh well, it's only $10 for a NIC, it won't hurt my aunt to pay that.

I figured I'd return to this since I finally sorted it. My aunt bought the NIC and I installed it yesterday ... and what a mess I discovered. It installed fine, but would not work, I spent hours trying to sort it out after discovering one service or another was not working and prevented connections being made. Come to find out when my aunt was talking to tech support at Dell to get it fixed they told her to disable services and out right delete certain files ... I'm talking services and files that are REQUIRED for internet connectivity!! Seriously they have her system all screwed up ... the only thing I can imagine is they wanted her to restore what she was deleting from her Windows (XP) disc and she forgot to or they didn't tell her ... either way it was stupid to do.

So I reinstalled XP on the system and all is well (FYI the old NIC is dead). I realize how complacent the latest OSes are making us. After using Vista and 7 for so long going back to XP felt very strange, especially from a getting everything to work standpoint.

yes the OS salad can be a task, i run 2 boxes 7/64/ult 3 xp64 3 xp32 2 server 2k3 and a SUN box from Fara im trying not to hit with a hammer.

when i go to work, helping customers i look for "printers and faxes" but NO it friggin "devices and printers" and vice versa all the time. plus nobody has the run command in the start menu so i have to remember "win key + r"
then they want to scan to a folder from the copier but NOOOOO they have eleventy-six friggin firewalls.

at least with win95 you knew what your limitations were.

glad to hear Aunt Switch is up and running
