FireFox is the only browser worth using these days :)

I can't stand firefox. It doesn't seem as well put together as Opera. Mebbe I should try a later version

I still use explorer primarily. It still works the best, but I'm rooting for firefox, my second pick.
I have no problems with explorer, im not sure why it gets such a bad rap?

Have you ever seen Opera or FireFox laden with six or seven spyware toolbars?

That was the reason for this thread. To see how popular FireFox has become.
My thought is, the more popular FireFox is the more apt it will be to get spyware and the like.
What do you think?

As long as mom and pop are clicking away on IE, it's popularity as a spyware victim won't decline.
My guess is spyware and malware manufacturing doesn't exactly have a huge risk v. reward... I doubt people would spend much time or effort looking into ways to attack a new platform.

That is most likely true. The reason IE is so prone to hacks, spyware and all that is because 90% of PCs use it so the people who code the spyware etc. aim to hit the most users as they can so code for IE. One FireFox becomes the most used browser, as in over 80% of all PCs, then it will become the target of the attacks.

As vulnerable as IE may be, I've never had any of my machines infected with any of these kinds of spyware, etc. As a matter of fact, WinXP SP2 does ALOT to make IE competetive with some of these blocking tools.
FireFox sure is popular, mostly because everyone seems biased against IE these days. As with any program, its how you use it that makes you the most vulnerable. Again, not bragging, but I have never had a security problem once with IE.
There's also little new in FireFox. It's just a stripped down version of modern netscape. Netscape is a bit bloated and runs slow, but FireFox runs well cause it's stripped down. Back when I was fighting against Opera on this board, I timed a bunch of browsers. NS was often the slowest. FireFox just combines that with some nice anti-spam features and I sure as heck like it. But it's nothing new.
I think Opera is god awful, but Ive made my opinion known on that subject lots of times.

I too have never had a problem with IE because I'm too damn paranoid to let anything happen LOL But I do prefer to use FireFox :)

No spyware either (dad can't figure out Opera :P)
From what perspective is Opera god awful? I haven't found a browser yet that has such an intuitive interface. I've only come across maybe two or three sites that are impossible to browse in Opera, and they aren't on my daily surfing list so it's a nonissue for me.

I tried Opera about 2 years ago. I thought it was pretty neat.
It was the first time I ever saw tabbed browsing, and I liked the fact that you could reload an image. I didn't like the stupid ads at the top though.
Does Opera still have ads?

Yeah... er... wow, after awhile you kinda forget they exist. They only take up about 50x1280pix

Yes. But now they are a narrow bar at the top. Adn they are ads by google :) other than that they have really improved the entire thing. So much so that is it my number 1 purchase once I am working again.
