I got my Hydor L40, 740 gph today. It comes with a 5/8" input and ouput. My system is going to be 1/2" so I replaced the barbs with 1/2" nylon barbs.
My question is, will the reduction of barbs increase the pressure of the system such that it will be dangerous to use since I probably moving less than 1/2 gallon of water in a closed circuit.
Another totally unrelated topic. I have a generic PSU of 400 watts, the 12V rail puts out ~11.6 without any thing on it. I know this will be a problem, can anybody suggest a better one. I was thinking the new Enermax 470. Thanks

The reduction of barbs will reduce the pressure of the system, not increase it.
Havent seen the Enermax 470, but it might be worth a shot. I like the Antec TruePower series, they have never let me down. The Vantec PSUs are nice as well.

crap, ya, you are right... I was thinking that because the design was for a 5/8" and since the new barb is 1/2", there would be an immediate pressure increase at the adaptor.
I been researching PSU's, and it seems that the Antec's True deliver fewer amps per rail than other non generic PSU of the same wattage while being price higher. Is there a specific reason?

480w is 480w. PSU measurements are always wonky. This is why you can have a generic 480w PSU that sucks worse than a 300w version.
My suggestion is not to go by specs alone :) All three of those powersupplies are good. I havent used the new Enermax versions, and im not sure what they fix.
A few peak amps here or there isnt going to make a difference, and each individial PSU can vary by as many as 2-3a on each line anyway.
Most always though, you cant get ALL ampers at once. Like on the stealth, you might be able to get 28a 12v, but say only 35a 5v at the same time. The maximums only apply while the other rails are lower.
The ONLY PSU I know that gives you full power everywhere is the PC Power TurboCool series. But these are loud, $200 powersupplies (havent been there in a while, they may have some new stuff).

Tell me what you think of it. I totally forgot about this post and didn't reply to it when I got my OCZ 480. Let me tell you, This bad boy is AWESOME. I personally haven't used an Antec PSU but from what I have used before; this thing is the best thing since sliced bread. The casing is nice, the fans are really really quiet. I love the fact that I can change each rail line. The only draw back is that the cables aren't sleeved. So I went ahead and changed the molex connectors to EZ grips and sleeved the bad boy ($15 job) It makes it look so much better. I wish I had a digital camera, I would love to share this beauty with the world :).
Does anybody know if there is a standard for how the SATA lines are supposed to be connected to its receptor? cause I was a dumb :mad2::mad2::mad2: and didn't write down the order of the colors.
Thanks.
not sure if this pic can help you out, but it's better then nothing :)
