hello,

think of building a mini pc based on either a duron or xp and wondering if anyone knows of any good micro atx mobo's.
I'm after something fairly cheap with good performance and maybe on board video and lan.

Also wondering if there are any flex atx amd mobo's I've seen quite a few intel ones and own a gigabyte one but not seen any amd based ones.

cheers

matt

seen it own it watching it ;)

my application for the mini boards is looking to maybe build a goo cooled seti crucher using many mini boards in a tank of that goo byrnies got. Just evaluating the cost and options at the moment. Prob just get one little board to play with. Try out the linux diskless boot stuff and work out dimensions.

One of thouse crazy ideas that I may or may not do. Be fun to try it out though :D

flex's be cool as their tiny but they seem quite rare even in intel variety.
I don't think there are any flex amd ones tried all the main suppliers so don't think they exist.

micro prob small enough though :)

well theres dozens of micro atx boards out there including a rather sexy looking beast from abit using the nvidia crush chipset :D

cheap micro atx ones include pcchips, jetway, biostar, chaintech, msi(i think) etc etc etc

that is quite nice probably a bit too pricy for my application. seems most of the other cluster type cruchers use the pc chips 841 or 810 I've seen bundles with the modo and a 1gig duron for 100 quid or 160 with a xp1700+.

might be worth considering.

BTW just been chatting to byrnie in hawaii over msn (good use of work time, well it is friday ;) )
seems well and having a good time course it's like night time thursday there so he's probably sleeping now.

anyway lunch time must be time to head for the pub :D

Hullo :)

i was looking for an all in one board recently, but i had to be ddr for me.

there are all the nforce based boards, but i found the price for them a little hard to swallow.

otherwise there is the pc chips m841lmr, which i currently have and i am trying to find the time to run a few benchmarks on.

epox do a board called the 8kmm+ (i think) however, scan (www.scan.co.uk) used to sell them, but dpont seem to have them in stovck any more

gigabyte also do a board called GA-7VKML which dabs sell.

they are both based on VIA's km266 chipset. unfortunatly i havent been able to find out much about it, and absolutly no benchmarks :(

they both retail about £75 inc vat, the pc chips board also sells for a similar amount from ocuk, but if you look around you should be able to find it at computer fairs for about £60

hope thats some help

toodles

This is my favorite AMD Micro ATX solution on the market right now. It is a fully integrated mobo solution. Pop in a CPU and RAM...and your done.

It can be had for well under $90 USD.

Asus A7N-266 VM (http://usa.asus.com/mb/socketa/a7n266-vm/overview.htm)

cheers for the info guys :D

seems like I have a few options the Asus A7N-266 VM looks quite sweet not quite as pricy as some of the other nforce boards still roughly pound to dollar parity though which is a pain.

now all I gotta do is scrape together the cash to get one, ah well thats what credit cards are for ;)
