It still has yet to totally sink in...
Still think he's on vacation and he'll be back.....
This weekend I lost a good friend. Mike "Spec-V" Dassing was killed in a motorcycle accident. I haven't gotten the full story as of yet but the end result was my friend dead on the side of the road.
With all the F'n pricks on the earth we have to loose a good person....

Thanks everyone. It was a rough week but it's all done now. I never really cry much at funerals, mainly because it's mostly older people that pass but I was a mess at this one. He's probally pissed we were all sitting there crying and not out celebrating. :D
The story I've gotten so far is a little vague. Seems I'll find out what really happened when I see him next but...
He and his friend were taking a ride on sunday. They left the house with his friend leaving first on his crusier with Mike leaving second on his sportbike. They were only going 35-45 mph on a local road (within the speed limit for the road). His friend looked back because he heard him coming up. The bike was wobbling bad, I think he was having a tank slapper where the front wheel smacks back and forth because of the geometry of most sportbikes. Then the bike accrelated and went hard left, across the road and he hit the guardrail. The bike was still on the power and he was pinched between the bike and the guardrail and was dragged. He seemed to be still conscious when he came to the Telephone pole because he tried to move out of the way but the pole struck him in the side of the helmet. He was pronounced dead on scene when the paramedics arrived 11min later.
There is some speculation of mechanical failure but they haven't gotten the bike back yet so we don't know. Possibly a blown tire or a stuck throttle. Not that it matters, what's done is done.
The ammount of people that came to the viewing was amazing. It was the most the home has ever had and the one at night was mobbed. I saw a lot of big men reduced to tears and a wonderful outpouring of suppourt from everyone there.
After the mass and services at the cemetary we were suppoused to go racing down at Summit point VA. Me and the Paisan didn't make it. We and 5 of his close friends went up to Frank's house in upstate to celebrate his life. He was going up that weekend and he did.... just not in the physical sense. He even got back at one of his friends. After one of our trips down our "rally road" tarmac stage he blew 3rd gear passing a van. :D
This sucks but at least now I'll allways have a co-driver with me. ;)
