Well, it might be an interesting and even humorous case mod study. However, your references to kicking your mother and crack pipes made me close the window on the second pic.

Not funny at all.

Hi Grump,

kms did not write the article, he mearly posted it.

Take it in the humor vain that it was intended to be.

I certainly don't want to hear kicking your mother and crack pipes either, but that is not the article, the aluminum foil is.

Take care........

Pardon my assumption, but I thought it was okay to be an individual and have my own opinion here. I said the "case" might be humorous. That was my own opinion. I said the language was offensive. That was my own opinion.

Just because my sense of humor isn't the same as your sense of humor doesn't mean I have to keep my opinions to myself. I didn't ask that it be censored, banned or edited. And I have no doubt others may find it hilarious -- especially the one who wrote it. I don't.

Is that okay with you or do I have to cow-tow to the general consensus? I thought I could take it any way I wanted. I felt the "article" and the posted pics were all part of the same package. Illustrated commentary is what my editor calls that sorta thing. Matter of fact, he told me I was too crude once and my audience was men with their minds in the gutter.

My feeling is that advocating drug use and violence against women, especially when that woman happens to be your own mother, is neither humorous nor appropriate for the subject matter of this forum. Combine that with the age or maturity of the poster and you get controversy, if not contempt.

'Course, I didn't say any of that in my original post. But you asked for it when you asked me to give up my freedom of expression. Although I offered reasons for my disdain, my post was very similar to AFroDYme's -- we both had an opinion on its humor. If you allow his without criticism, you have to allow mine.

Now, granted some of you think it's funny as all git-out. But do me a favor; show it to your Mom and ask her if it's funny. That's what I thought.

Jeeze, gimme a break.

hiya grump

no ones taken away your freedom of expression mate, you can have your point of view just like everyone else, there has been no censorship of anyone here

like you i think the article is a bit borderline in it's references to kicking your mother and stuff, but the LN team decided to take a very broad view on whats right and wrong in posts as censoring posts tend to cause more trouble than not censoring them.

as an example (this is a real example btw taken from another bbs) we had a gentleman who was censored once for posting some questionable material, we removed the post and PM'd him telling him what was up. for ever after this guy would try to push the limits of the rules on the board trying to provoke a response from the mods and admins. if the origional post had simply been left he probably wouldn't have posted any more dodgy stuff and everything would have been fine.

i hope this explains things, and i hope you can see that no one has had thier opinions taken away from them

hi grump, points taken & good ones too, one thing we all have in common is that we are all very different, no ones right and no ones wrong here imo & i the last thing we want is for someone to keep there opinions or views to themselves. The references to crack pipes & momma kicking were not serious afaik & personally i'd have no problem showing that to my mom, but then thats just me, shes old enough to watch 18 movies and a one liner like that wont offend her in the slightest as she would realise the light in which its intended, but i do realise how it may effect others & respect your views in full. I hope this hasnt put you off & hope you'll stick around as diversity of opinions and views makes for good discussion & thats what this forum is about - good friendly discussion :)

Hey guys,
I just have to say that some of those things in that article were kinda offensive to some people. Shure i could show that to my mom and she would of laughed.. but then again if i showed it to my friends mom she would of yelled at me for it. Honestly i think that he wrote that to be funny and not really ment those things in anyway. Once again Just an opinion.

OMG, this is the most humorous thread I have ever seen and I am not talking about the case mod.

Funny thing, when I read the entire post I could not help but think of a book called BIAS By Bernard Goldberg.

Well I am going to go take a hit of my crack pipe and kick the $@%# out of my mom because the case mod page advocated it. It's all your fault for starting this thread kms !!!! you have made me into a crack smoking, mom kicking foo !!

Oookie. Everyone just take a breather here. LN.com is a free-speech board, and that is very important to me. I don't beleive that anyone was censored here. Although, opinions were shared by all parties, and there is a disagreement.

"Ghetto" case mods have been around in the OC community forever. I certainly do not have a problem with these being on the board. I'm sorry that the links offend people, but as with life, you cant please all of the people all of the time.

If the link had been seriously advocating drug use or violence, then it would have been removed.

Anyway, the thread will stay open for constructive comments, like I said, free speech is important to us here. But, will be closed if it gets any more out of order.

>>But, will be closed if it gets any more out of order.<<

I don't see that it's out of order at all -- unless you're thinkin' I'm the one out of order. But I don't think so.

Perhaps I should have known my objection to the link would have been trounced on by the more liberal minded fans of the author of that piece. Or maybe it was the rebelious nature of the piece and my fuddy-duddy-ism didn't set well with a couple.

My comments boiled down to being disappointed that I was not able to continue enjoying the "mod" because of my perceived offensiveness of the narrative. And my comment that it was not funny.

The very last thing I want is to see censorship, moderator editing or anything of the sort. Some could say I fought for kms' right to post what he/she did (I don't because I don't see my stint in Nam as a struggle for American freedom). What is true fact though is that I will support the rights of anyone in a free society. So, I am happy to participate in a forum that allows us to excersize our freedoms, and I especially like this particular forum.

This means, of course, that I will excersize my right to object to violence (this coming from a man who has killed), drug use (coming from a man who is an addict (with more than 17 yrs. of sobriety) ) and objectifying women (also from a man who is thought to be guilty of this because he writes strip club reviews and erotic fiction). I am glad to see I am able to be free here.

---------------------------------

Of course, there's always someone who will claim their mother would find that article funny. Keep livin' in a dream world.

Grump
[EDIT: Fergot ta thank you, KMS, for your apology. Accepted and appreciated and I hope you know it's not you and I at odds, only our perceptions of what's humorous. Thanks again.]

I'm thinking Player0 donen't want this to get blown out of proportion. Everyone has their own opnion of funny.

Go tell a black man a joke that makes him the butt of it and you might get your ass handed to you. Tell the same joke to a white guy and he might laugh for a day. I depends on how you feel about things. I have a very sick sense of humor and personally thought the post was funny. I also know what jokes to tell to certian people. From personal experience I've found out that preists disdain clergy molestation humor.

Everyone here provides a great place to say what you want. If you go beyond the bounds you get told about it. That also means that you might come across something you don't aprove of. Grump did and stated it. Others found it to be funny. Grump just stated his opnion and he didn't say it should be pulled. No blood, no foul.

Grump, You've been through it and I thank you for fighting for us to stay free.

Now if everyone can calm down, grab your favorite libation and get back to abusing our PC's

Alex.

Hi, Endo from afrotechmods here.
The site is not meant to be offensive, if you look through the whole site, you'll understand that it's one big joke.
Yes it's an 18+ site.
For almost 2 years and 500 000 unique visits, we only had 1 complaint email from someone finding afrotech offensive, it was from 2 black brothers from chicago, telling us that ghetto was an offensive word, I had to go through long lengths to explain to them what humor was.
No we don't really encourage you do hit your mother and do drugs, but anyone with half a mind understood that, that's why I reiiterate that it's an 18+ site.

Hi Endo,

First let me be the first to say, :D WELCOME:D to Liquid Ninjas.

Secondly, I agree, it is not offensive and thank you for clarifying that for us. It is hard to be a joke and be offensive.

Take care, and hope to hear from you more in the future.

I personally love off the wall humor hehe.

Funny, I never knew the word ghetto was offensive. I guess anything you say can be considered offensive by someone.

I think anyone whining like a baby over vocabulary should get a life and move on. There are much more important things to worry about in life than silly human words.

They are just words after all...its what you do with them that counts.

Endo

Me? Have an original thought? Never! ;)

I dont have any ghetto case mods myself. My car though. According to my GF, the most ghetto thing she's seen me do while driving is to yank out the turn signal control, jam a piece of metal in to the slot (a back pci plate for a pc case), twist it so the windowwasher fluid squirts out, then remove the metal and jam the turn signal back in so I can turn on the wipers themselves, before the washer fluid all blows away ;)

This is of course cause I wont replace the $2 washer fluid switch on the turn signal control ;)

Hi Fara,

We have certainly gotten off topic a lot, but what the hey:

I remember my high school days, (Yes, there was high school in my youth. It had just been invented). Anyway, had it not been for coat hanger wire and duct tape, I would have not been able to drive my car most of the time. :D

Take care........
