Why doesn't anyone pelt their nb, wouldn't that yield a higher fsb, if ur cpu and nb were pelted?

Watercooling alone yeilds some benefit, but not much. It's just not worth it. Best case is to slap a HSF on it.

ditto, in most cases a large passive heatsink will be fine because they simply don't get hot enough to warrant pelt or water cooling... might change in the future (though i hear some of the new P4 chipsets get a bit toasty) but for the minute its not worth it.

yeah everyone just feels that the effort:gains ratio is not high enough.

yea i just got me a thermalrite nb-1 from svc for a mere 15bucks and this thing is amazing (i didnt even apply as5 and lap {ill do that later, after finals})! there was an immediate 10degrees drop from my old stock msi hsf... And i also discovered that i could get a higher oc... Looks like msi's stock hsf for the nb is really bad...

On DFI 865/875 boards the NB heatsinks come with no fan, this is a mistake.
They have a substantial H/S on them, but if you watercool the CPU, the NB will easily get 60-70C on a decent overclock.
adding a small fan cools it quite easily. BUT I think you all are underestimating the heat the NB can pump out... its on the oder of 15-30 watts I would guess.

yep totally agreed... on my old hsf it got to around 50 degrees on load! Man im so glad i got the nb-1, is supposedly 34 dba, but i dont notice a difference (prolly cuz i have a 48dba fan on my cpu)... :D

well if you are curious ive heard (applied to car audio)
to add 3db, you need to either double the wattage, or double the cone space

kinda... -3db is half the noise power though all this stuff is very subjective...
