Best game of all-time for PC

I'd have to say Max Payne... but JKII (Jedi Knights II: Jedi Outkast) is up there too. What about you guys?

Half-Life just edges out the JK series for me, followed by UT series, then Quake.

Wolfensteing and Redfaction are in there somewhere. Both of which I loved as well.

Max Payne is good but haven't played much yet.

This is of course in terms of FPS.

It used to be the UT series or CS.

Now it's RTCW multiplayer. So far it's the best fps cooperative strategy game out there now IMOHO. I still cannot get enough of that game:)

Half-Life 2 and Unreal 2 will be amazing, as well as Doom 3, and the new Tron game :)

Im addicted to JKii right now, just because its so unique from other FPS. The saber fights and force powers are spiff :)

god... i havn't played computer games for ages... lets see... rally championship 2001 was excellent, played that a lot... duke nukem 3d :) hummm... GTA the origional one... i'm looking forward to GTA 3 on the PC that should be good

Theres gonna be a Quake 4 now? I hope they put a story back in to it, and a first person mode. Deathmatch is fun, but...you need more to be classified a good game in my book. Thats why Q3 sort of sucked...no story. No single player.

mdzpca - You'll need a walk-through, that is the only bad point of JKII. The ones I used are here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/game/32648.html You can try and retain your pride as long as possible, but you'll probably need a walkthrough at some stage. ;)

Didnt have any walkthroughs around when I first played this hehe :) I got stuck a couple times though. It was a little frustrating but I managed to find my way through. Ususally it was just trying to find those little air vents you need to crawl through :)

Yeah, I hope the Lakers beat the Kings but I don't want them to win another championship. I have the SoF2 beta, and infact the REAL THING has been out here for 3 weeks now. :D Man I love Hong Kong. Unfortunetly, I don't have it because I have too much on my hands currently. It's good though for sure. The interface of the beta is much like that of JKII. Incredable graphics.

I am not sure but after playing SOF2 B a couple of hours I consider RTCW for better one.Not visual quality of course but there is no " shoot me in my knee & I'm suddenly dead " in RTCW.
I have perceived this bug immediately - I hate if shooting in legs can kill enemy...

Next thing - I wonder that Q3 engine can be so slow on my machine ... Yes,the graphic is amazing but after setting everything to low the gain in FPS was negligable

Well here goes my first post on Liquid ninjas :)


IMHO Half-Life is still the best FPS (singleplayer) around. It really set the standard, and I judge other games by its playability, AI, and atmosphere etc. Other than that the Quake series has to take the cake. But atm ... for playability and realism etc its MoH:AA!! :D

Also have finally started Dungeon Seige ... totally adictive I have to say... especially co-op multiplayer!

hm, raher dissapointing crop of answers here, it stands to reason that the newest/latest games will be the most highly rated, but, to qualify for the best ALL TIME game for PC I recon youve got to discount all games under 1 year old, if in a years time they can still be considered worthy of such a rating then so be it.

the classic example is the radio 1 all time top 100 singles survey, this is a survey that R1 take during its summer roadshow, and time and again top hits for that summer rate very highly as ALL time top 10 hits, yet in a years time they dont figure at all, BUT every year there always have been a two singles that have ALWAYS rated somewhere in the top 10 these are Bohemian Rhapsody and Thriller, yet they rarely rate better than 3rd..

So, discounting the trendy and current stuff, my nomination has got to be


WARCRAFT II

one of the original on line multiplayer games, which allongside Doom virtually defined online gaming, WARCRAFT II is as playable today as it has ever been, and unlike Doom hasnt become dated or outdone by its later clones

Okay, well, here's an oldie but goody:

Might and Magic VI. Overall, I guess RPG's are my favorite. I'm plenty good @ "twitch" games but I like story-telling and strategy, and RPG's give me these 2 things. :)

Actually, if you include outside influences (I.e. mods and add-ons) then nothing, absolutely nothing, beats UT. Check out planet unreal - they're still cranking out full mods at good speed - they just added the Operation Na Pali mod in fact yesterday! There is always something new that changes that game around enough to the point where it seems new again.

i love TFC aswell, Strategy games I always will love the original red alert, but the best was total annihilation. Probably one of the most underrated games ever, TA stll looks great to this day, it was made by chris Taylor - the guy behind Dungeon Siege.
FPS wise i would have to go with .... hmm tricky, obv HL is good and mohaa is great, but for originality I like AVP2. AVP one was confusing and odd, avp2 really brought the game to the mass audience (plus the multiplayer is awesome.
Driving, i gotta agree with NFS5. That game is so great, tho I hate losing my car in a bet race :(
Anyways back to playing Red Alert 2 - Yuris revenge, its the only decent westwood strategy game of late. Tho C&C: Generals (http://firingsquad.gamers.com/games/e32002/page4.asp) is looking simply amazing.

For the future - Warcraft 3 and UT2003 are the games I am anxious to get my hands on!

Generals is looking absolutely incredible, I can't wait for that game. The graphics are stunning and the game play sounds good too. My only gripe is China being the other world power next to USA, doesn't seem to realistic.

i suppose bar the EU rising to power, china with its immense population and strict military discipline (plus state over rule) will become a force by sheer mass.
Also I think maybe westwood love attacking those 'commy bastards' .....

i would have to say that Soldier of Fortune 2 double helix is the best and most realistically hard game to play on the market , beside ghost recon. not to mention they look so realistic.

Im sorry to bump you SOF and ghostrecon......but i just got grand theft auto 3 and it is the most awesome game i have played in a long time. very addictive and its extreemely long. been playing for about 24 hours total and still only about 1/3 done(i dont cheat)
it got some pretty bad reviews... i dont see why. i think that it is a very well done game and has an excellent storyline to boot!
well worth my 50 bucks!:D
