Well, I hadn't seen it at the theaters so I bought the DVD. I really love Tarantino's films. If you get what he's about, his movies are great. I can see where some people might not like it though, you really have to be tuned in to that mindset.

Anyway, great movie seriously. He's obviously been watching far too much anime and kung-fu movies. Speaking of kung-fu movies, I was surprised to see Gordon Liu in the titles. I dont think I've ever seen him in any US films though. Master Killer is probably the best martial arts movie ever. I'm sure Tarantino brought him along to really bring some respect to the film, but I was seriously disappointed in Liu's performance. Maybe he's just getting older (He's 49). The fight scene with Liu didn't impress me, I thought Uma looked better, and she hasn't done this very much ;) I see he's returning as a different character in the second movie. Maybe he will take off the mask and really show his stuff this time. Don't say anything though, I'm going to see it this week if I can lol.

Anyone know how she got a sword on the airplane?

Master Killer is simply one of the best classic kung fu movies :D
Is Liu the star of that? And he's in this?
Oh..Now I gotta watch this :D

I agree P0. Kill Bill (both episodes) are amazing! I thought the exact same thing watching them, "I didnt know tarantino was an anime fan!" If you havent seen these movies, you definetly should

Yeah, but he doesn't do much in volume 1. He's the old master in volume 2.

I'm an old kung-fu movie buff. Tarantino even put the Shaw Brothers intro on the movie, I thought that was hilarious :)

The movie starts VERY strong. I mean, you have one of the main fight scenes right at the beginning of the movie. He loves doing that, the reverse story line thing. Its probably the only thing uniquely him in these movies, since he rips everything off from everyone else (in a very very good way).

But he definitely has a ton of hong-kong kung-fu style influence, although most of it is sword-fighting. I thought the big Tokyo scene was a little over the top. And, I know he wanted it cheesy and over the top, but there has to be SOME limit ;) As far as a story line, thats real weak as well. It passes for an action flick, but I dont think it has the depth that say, Jackie Brown had. The characters are very one dimensional, they all represent something essential and static. Thats generally NOT what Tarantino does.

What he DOES do is anyones guess though ;)

Yeah, Liu is in Master Killer, Return to the 36th Chamber, and about 500 other classic kung-fu movies that you can buy for $6 at Media Play :) I don't think he actually speaks English, which is why he hasn't been in any American films. I always thought he had more skill in real martial arts than Jet Li or Jackie Chan ever did. But he was more goofy than a decent action guy ;)

Where are all the young kung-fu guys? I haven't seen anyone decent under 45 yet lol. Its the same thing with US action guys, all the good ones are over the hill. Marky Mark and Russel Crow are okay I guess.
