I miss metal. I'm not even that old, and already there seems to be a significant reduction in the amount of metal around us. I got my face drilled yesterday by some psychopathic dentist (is it safe?) and now EVERYTHING tastes like metal. Or just really, really hurts.
Oddly enough, I'm drinking soda out of a glass bottle. Soda tastes better in a glass bottle. I'm something of a soda connasewer myself. This particular one is IBC Orange Cream. (IBC has some of the best rootbeer). I think things stay colder in glass. Maybe its just better soda. There's only so much Pepsi someone can drink in their life, so finding new soda is important. And yes, I can taste the difference between all the main colas (I honestly do not see how some people can't).
I'm pretty sure that you could buy a lot of soda in glass bottles when I was a kid. In fact, I'm sure of it. Now it's more aluminum and plastic. With all the scare over aluminum poisoning (alzehiemers) it really makes you think twice about going with metal. I can't wait until they say plastic is unsafe.
It just goes to show you how few answers us humans have. We're still not even sure what in our environment is good for us or what is bad. Am I allowed to eat eggs or not? That Atkins guy died pretty young, and my grandfather ate shit his entire life and still works harder than anyone I know at almost 80. We're all a bit radioactive at this point, and there doesn't seem to be any solid evidence to support ANYTHING, but I know people who won't eat eggs, use aluminum foil, or will get metal fillings.
I am mostly asking you older 70's-80's guys, was this crazy health craze going on back then? Or was I just to young. It seems to me that I was raised in a VERY different environment that exists now.

yea i know, there are way to many pussies around... atkins is effin bs, and the reason they dont use metal filings is because they have this "safer" more cosmetic solution, this shit that looks like the color of ur teeth so it blends in and u no1 can tell whether u got a filling or not... i dont really mind that stuf... and yea, soda tastes a helluva lot better in glass bottles, i like it that way... the more we find out the more we know how much we dont know... and people just need to relax, and stop not eating eggs... lol, and get off atkins, and actually try to do something like protect the environment from corporate america... lol

Yeah, my lady went thru the whole removing all of her metal fillings for porcelain a couple years back, and now she's having probably more problems than if she woulda left em in.
It wasn't even the metal that was bad (or so they say this week heh), it was the heavy metal (mercury) in the amalgam that was.
The funny thing though, after the metal filling fears, theres still mercury in that mixture (albeit much less). I'm keeping mine in, and they seem to be holding better than most 'holistic, costmetic' ones that I've heard of people having. Even though my dentist is a good buddy of mine, I'd much rather see him @ the pub than the office.

damn.. I would rather have holes in my teeth then mercury thank you.
And as for them having look good feel good crazes back then, I wasnt from around then, but I talked to my grandma and great aunt, they both say yea, they were with weird shit though that doesnt make sense to us now, and didnt actuelly make a difference. Kinda like using toothpaste to get rid of freckles im sure some of you may have heard of.
Its mostly blown out of proportion due to TV and how much people use TV to socialise. People see what they want, and desire it more. You see what you want on TV and desire it more, more desire you try harder. Some people go to the extremes of things that damage them, because they feel that it is safe, even though they are told its not. And I dont mean things like Atkins, which itsnt really healthy in my opinion, unless you speak to a Doctor and take vitimans etc. But I mean things like crank, or anorexia etc.

I didn't know you were a soda junky.:D
Check out Soda King (http://www.sodaking.com/), they have all kinds of goodies. The shipping costs as much as the drinks though.
Yeah, people worry WAY to much about what they eat.
It's mostly because the puppets at 6 and 11 spend there lives hyping up stupid crap.
A friend of mine died of brain cancer at the age 32, he was one of the most fit guys I ever knew.
It doesn't matter what you eat or do, you live as long as you live.
Wow, soda, media and death, hmm.

Kinda like using toothpaste to get rid of freckles im sure some of you may have heard of. anyone over 30 knows its lemon juice that removed freckles and toothpase that killed and prevented zits and blackheads:)
when the mimeograph paper was sniffed by girls whom claimed it smelled like apple pie:)
i like my steel cars, the fibreglass and plastic ones crubble on impact...i still drive away.

I can't wait until they say plastic is unsafe.
What, haven't you heard all that stuff about the edocrine-disrupting effect of pthalates? There's apparently enough xeno-oestrogen in the contents of a typical plastic-lined tin can to sterilise a rat.
I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that advertising is the root of all evil. Chart just about any negative social indicator you like, and compare it to the growth and sophistication of advertising and I bet you'll see a correlation. Functional people aren't as good consumers as disfunctional ones...

I guess a lot of it has to do with the medical industry going absolutely insane. Look at the TV, there's a drug for EVERYTHING now. And most of them don't work. The bladness cures, the viagra, the allergy meds, the purple pill, the SSRIs, etc. Everyone's sickness (even herpes, the common cold, and the other incurables) can be 'cured' with drugs.
My boss and his wife are in to holistic eating and the natural way of doing things. I think a lot of it is smoke and mirrors, but its no different than western medicine. My asian wife has a lot of eastern medicine influences. I think that if you listen to a little bit of all the influences, you'll do well.
Because of my stomach disease, I've had to radically alter the way I eat. Not only have I developed a ton of food allergies and lactose intolerance, even certain combinations of foods that I normally can eat make me sick. I've been taking proton pump inhibitors for years. I weighed under 190 pounds when I started taking Prevacid. I gained 150 pounds in less than a year. But my diet hadn't changed a bit. Now the PPIs reduce the acid and enzyme production in my stomach which means that I dont have the constant burning pain, but im also not digesting food properly. I'm nutrient defficient in some areas, so I end up needing more food to compensate, which means i'm getting more of the bad stuff. I always ate medium well growing up, not hideously, but probably too much fast food and junk food. Now that Im married, I'm eating better than ever, and I've lost 40 pounds. But until I find a balance with this Nexium and indigestion, its just hard to loose that extra weight. I'm reading this holistic stuff, and it requires an iron will. You cant :mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2: up if you try it. But, I beleive I can take the nexium out of the picture completely, if I follow an even stricter diet.
Its the same thing with other meds. I suffered with terrible acne as a teenager. There was a medicine the cured it, tetracycline I beleive. An antibiotic. I took it a couple times for sinus infections, but I noticed that it always cleared my acne up for like a month! But the doctor wouldnt let me take it for the acne, no, not at $5 a bottle. I had to use the $200/mo Retin-A cream and all this other crap which never, ever worked. I can understand about the overuse of anti-biotics but... still just another example of modern medicine not doing anything. Don't even get me started with mental health and SSRIs, I mean, you have to be PRETTY damn desperiate to beleive that ANY of that stuff does anygood.
Modern medicine is all about exchanging one set of problems for another. It's as simple as that. More often than not, the side-effects are worse than the disease. My teeth haven't hurt, but I couldnt even have dinner last night because I had cavities filled. Two more than I was aware he was GONNA fill. I dont know.
Excelling link Wacky, yeah Id have to order in bulk :) I've always wanted to try an egg-cream though. Oo, they have REAL ginger ale, I love that stuff. Healthy too, clears the sinuses out :)

I dunno, without drugs, my brother might be alot skinnier, but he would still be having conversations that never existed.
He is on Zyprexa an anti psychotic I believe, due to his being diagnosed with Psychotic Chaotic Schizophrenia.
This all is enough reason to stay the hell away from any sort of mind altering substance, which I believe either shrooms, LCD or Pot were the eventual cause of his current mental state.

not that i even have time to debate but pot never caused anyone psycological problems. its totally safe.
ever hear in the news "Two men stoned on pot robbed a bank today" or killed someone, sure you forget shit, but what the hell.
I am neither condoning or admitting anything, i just think for a non man-made substance, it is the lesser of all evils.
ever hear of someone overdosing on pot? nope, they just fall asleep.
yes there are down sides, minor eye damage, increased heart rate and breathing, and yes a little closer to lung cancer but cigarettes will do it to and they are legal.
i believe all serious psycological problems are caused by either chemical changes in the brain or an overprotective mother.
i am only semi-serious so you dont need to flame back:)

Naw its fine, I dont believe pot did it, I believe the shrooms, possibly other drugs, and/or combination of it and other things. It definitly wasnt an overportective mother.. My brother and I trampled all over her and were :mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:s to her. Lots of things im my life I wish I could undo, but Im glad I did them or I wouldnt be the man I am today. Just sucks for my brother that he is half an inch taller then me but twice my weight, and is pretty out of it all the time
