My El Camino passed because it had a big hole in the muffler, so some of the nasty junk didn't make it to their meters.

Put 100 Octane racing gas in it for the test?

Do a tune up I suppose, ti could be do. A new coil, wires, and plugs should make it pass.

Tune the engine so it runs leaner, or lower the idle speed for the test?

Your the damn car guy, im just talkin out my butt :)

actually i was quite amused:)
all items you mentioned helped it pass the other noxious gasses tests but the cat converters are the only thing that will remove N0x...its like a constant in the universe:( in the world of petroleum burning engines.

thank you though:)

Cleaning it should make the catalyst more effective again. If the thing isnt clogged then it should be close to passing.

Have it tested on a warmer day. They work better in the warmer, dryer weather.

There is supposedly an additive out now that will make a catless car pass emissions - I don't recall the name though! But someone posted it months back on clubwrx.net
