Came in to work today pushed the power button on my work pc and clack...clack....clack....
The old Quantum fireball drive died
I reflowed all the ic's and plugs on the HDD and it came back enough to run but windows was hopelessly corrupted. Maybe I can get what little data hasn't been backed up yet when i get the new drive and fresh OS on it :dunno:
And of course it will take time to get the requisition for a new HD threw
Now I gotta drag my laptop to work everyday again :(

Oh well. I guess I'll finally have more than 10 gig in that stupid machine now. Or better yet..Something more modern than a 1ghz celeron. :)

Oh well....Cut work early, came home and tinkered with my Kawasaki's Keihin carbs....Picked up lots of lost horsepower due to clogs and loose needle jet holders wreaking havoc on the fuel mixture at higher rpm/throttle openings.

Far as recovering your data, download Knoppix at www.knoppix.org burn the iso to a cd, and you have a bootable, linux cd. So turn off your computer, boot to it and you should be able to access all your old directories, assuming they too arent corrupted.

For a more robust, security focused Knoppix, try Knoppix STD (http://www.knoppix-std.org/)
(Its my personal favorite :) )

Hope that helps.....

or you can try the old quantum slap. Slap the hd flat on a desk hard like and put it in and get everything off cuz it will most likely never work again. (recomended as a last last resort, and if the data is absolutly needed) (c:

umm i wouldn't do that if i were you... try what naxos suggested, and if that doesn't work and U REALLY REALLY REALLY need the data u can send it to companies that will recover it for you (although it cost a lot of $$) these companies recover burned (literally) hard drives so urs shouldn't be such a problem...

Don't stress it dudes....There wasn't much data that isn't backed up on the drive. I wont sweat the loss. As I said I reflowed all the ics and the drive is working but with the OS corrupted I'll just wait till the new drive and see what may or may not be salvaged off the old one. I have a spindle of 10 cdrs that already have almost everything that was on the old drive :D
