View Full Version : Cost Effectiveness

Well I've been doing my research for pelting for quite a while, and I've decided that i'm going to pelt both my cpu and gpu (226 and 176 watt peltiers respectively), and that is going to cost me around 500usd. BUT there is also the option of a phase change, which is around 150-200usd more. BUT aren't the electricity bills for my pelt system going to be WAY more than the electricity bills for the my phase change, thus making the phase change system more cost effective in the long run?

i think we said that at the begining ;)

when your spending that much phase change is the way to go.

Yeah, if your spending $500 go to phase change :)

now if later on i wanted to pelt my gpu, and i used the 176 watt peltier, could screw the meanwell and just connect it to my 550 antec truepower? (i have 2 optical drives, 2raided hd's, floppy, cluster of fans)

and let's say i could do that, what dual 80 mm rad would be best to use?

and should i wc my nb now?

and would the mcp600 still be the best pump to use?

The 176w (?) peltier is probably a 24v unit, so it wont run at full capacity at 12v. But, yes, you can skip the meanwell by far.

Any I only know of two dual 80mm radiators not counting heater cores. I doubt theres a difference really.

The best pump to use is the best one you can afford.

Yeah, I'm just experiencing this now. I've sunk about 500 into a pelt rig so far, and it's still not quite how I want it.

For the same price (well maybe $50 more when its all said and done), I'm getting a modded, tuned, phase change system with a more effective evaporator and mounting/insulation system that will keep me well below zero, and not draw as much power(which becomes a concern in the summer where I live).

Now if only they would end the bickering on XS and activate my account so that I can find out some more accurate capillary tube lengths and where to run/insulate it to gain a bit of subcooling, I'll be a happy camper.

Luckily we don't have that problem here :) They seem to have more ops and mods than we do active users!! After lurking around there, I'm so glad theres a much smaller and tighter community to hang my hat @.

Why do you have a problem with account activation on XS?

We just make our active productive members mods ;)

I have no idea, it wont let me post or PM... Doesn't matter much now, it's down again. Luckily I was able to get the info I needed just in time.
