Agh, we seem to have a mouse problem at home now. I've trapped one, but our second trap has been sprung twice now with no success. But there are mouse hairs in the peanut butter. I beleive we still have another mouse, but I can't find this mother. It's possible the traps are just springing on their own.
I can't find where they are coming from. OUr kitchen is small, and there are no holes in the walls for mice to get in the kitchen, EXCEPT for inside the cupboards. HOWEVER, we havent found mouse droppings in the cupboards and I dont beleive that the mice could get in an out of the cupboard doors. I haven't seen traces of mice droppings outside of the kitchen. Can they really get in and out of cupboard doors?
Is there anyway to track the mice back to the source so I can seal it up? Any one know of any other bait i can use which is more likely to spring the traps? Im not sure the live traps will work as well, and what do I do with the things after I get them?

Just turn the crank,
And snap the PLANK!
and shoot the marble right down the shoot,
*NOW* watch it roll
and hit the poll
and knock the marble in the rub-a-dub tub,
which FLIPS the man,
into the pan,
the Trap is set,
here COMES the net!
Mouse trap, I garauntee,
it's the craziest trap you'll ever see!

Do you have a crawl space or a basement? Did you check where your water pipes come in under the sink? Mice can come in anywhere, squeeze in anything, including cupboard doors.
Dryer vents! Do you have a dryer?
Use those sticky pads if you don't mind seeing a mouse covered in goo.

So you beleive they can get in and out of kitchen cupboards? I can use masking tape to see if the mice are coming out.
We have dryer vents, but wouldnt the mouse simply get in the dryer?
No, the goo pads I dont like.

there has got to be some sort of mouse poisen that they eat and crawl back home and die and infect the rest of them. How did they get into the peanut butter btw? you leave it unopen often?
also.. get a cat, some cats are fat and lazy though.. some are great at katching things, just dont be suprised when the cat brings it to you in its mouth and drops it in front of you still alive (c: I love cats

I once had a mouse that was faster than mouse traps and smart enough to do hi wire acts over the top of stick traps. One day teh wife and I just happen to see it and corner it under a piece of furniture. We barracaded it in there for a day. Then came back and beat the crap out of it with a wire under there then pulled it's stunned carcas out from under the furniture and threw it in a gerbal cage (fireman motife)
It's now fat and confy in there.
It's named Alex. :P :D

Oh...I even built a trap using an infrared beam as the trigger so it couldn't see any danger. The beam being interupted would release a selenoid catch and allow the door to be pulled shut.
Somehow that mouse knew it was trouble :O

1-800-RENT-A-CAT.
if you really want to take a humanitarian approach, research sonic devices to rid your flat of vermin.
they emit a high pitched noise humans can't hear which drives them away.

Put a UV light in the kitchen. See here. (http://www.professionalequipment.com/xq/ASP/id.18/subID.192/qx/default.htm)

:D I can see it now ... black lights - disco ball - the little bastards will dance themselves to death!! :D
Sprinkle some talcum powder around in the cupboards that will show you tracks..
They do have wind up traps that I've had luck with - MOUSE MASTER (http://www.pestproducts.com/mouse_master.htm) - You can buy them at HD..
When I was baching it - a BB gun brought great sport to the house - course the place was a rental too!!
BTW, my wife actually does the dance on the table - complete with screams when she sees a mouse -
Happy hunting..

btw.. they do follow edges of walls.. so place your traps against the walls etc.
hrm.. put sooo much damn cheese in the middle of the kitchen floor that it will sit out there eating it till it gets too damn lazy to leave it and when you get up in the morning it will be passed out from gorging itself.
Just an idea (c:

here's a neat trick.
Instead of peanut butter, use a thick skinned lunchmeat life salami. Use a small peice near the edge of the coldcut that has the thicker skin. Hook the small peice of salami on the mousetrap in such a way that the meat will not come loose without significant force.
A mouse will never be able to get a taste without getting snapped.
Try it.

You wouldnt believe what a mouse can squeeze through. I stuffed every opening in my house such as where the plumbing comes in with steel wool and covered it with that expanding foam stuff. I did this two years ago and have not seen a mouse in my house since. I live next to the woods and use to have a mouse problem every year. The only problem I have had and im not sure how they are getting in there are my heat ducts. They manage to get in but cant get out. And I only know that because of the knockout odor radiating from the vents when the heat kicks on. I been meaning to get them sticky tracks and putting them under the heat vent. Man what a pain it is when its dead right in the middle of two vents beyond reach.
