Next weekend I'm taking a trip down to VIR (www.virclub.com) with Team IAC. (www.teamiac.com) We're going down for a track event to go racing.
I'm not racing in this event I'm playing more of a pit crew role. I get to go into town and fill the gas tanks. Maybe I'll get a lap or two as a passanger. I don't think I can handle a 100+ mph lap at a road course. I think I'll start with a auto-x first. ;)

I was wrong. I was 115mph down the back strech of VIR chasing down the pacecar that thought it could leave the RS behind. Guess he didn't know about the WRX motor under the hood :)
Words can not explain how much fun I had. Even though it was far from fun and games (I was crew chief) all the work was sooo very worth it.
I'll go into more detail later and link to the 300+ pictures I took but right now I'm dead tired and have to work in the AM.
Anyone interested in cars should make it to a track day if possible. It will cost a nice chunk of change to get on the track (unless there are parade laps but that's with a pacecar and 80 is normally the top speed) but you're no bullshit, really racing. You think GT3 is fun you have no idea how much fun it's in real life. :D :D

I wish you saw the post eairler. I would have loved to have another rex there. I'll be there in about one year for the next one so I'll let you know. We were tracking a 04 STi, our 96 imprezaL racecar, a WRS (older RS with a 2.0l WRX turbo motor), a neon and the best car on the track... a 73 VW super bug. :)
I really can't convey how much fun this event was. If you like cars this this something you shouldn't miss. Racing is better than sex mainly because it lasts all weekend and the car doesn't get pissed when go drive another car.
a lot of pics here (www.teamiac.com) under 04 events VIR NASA-V trackday.

I'll be getting all the pics later and pick and post the select few. I think I took close to 400 pics so it might take a bit.
I only got 2 pictures of the factory dodge new vipers there for the test and tune. I allmost wet myself when I first saw them. They were about 10 hours old. :)

I thought of you a whole bunch of times while I was there Wes. you would of loved the Porshes there. I saw at least 3 GT-3 cup cars there. One allmost blew out my eardrum when I was taking pictures from the bridge. There was a sick 914 with a wing that was so big it was giving my STi owning teamates wing envy. ;)
Here are some highlights.

stupid mechanics that like to put things that are legally supposed to be there, that wernt there when I arrived.. like a governer )c: I used to be able to go 115 on flat ground in my saturn.. but now.. 110 and ewie.. Heh, I miss one night on a very slight incline of a freeway from San Jose to Pleasanton California in less the 20 minutes most of it at 120+ MPH. Then there was once I was going downhill in lunch traffic about 80 MPH racing some random guy.
Another guy once.. thought his porshe had balls.. it may have but he was lacking and in his car he may have been on my *** off the on ramp, but I was gone when I jumped around the cars like a well trained martial artist (was gonna say dancer.. but I dont know how to dance well).
Anyways, I dont mean to sound like im bragging, I miss driving real fast.. its hard to do in Rainy Oregon, expecially when you dont have registration or insurance :( grr! all these pic's and I WANNA DRIVE!! heh, must.. relax.. must relax.. almost out of work.. calm down and not get tickets on the way home. heh heh heh nice cars... daft wing though... guess you need it on those tail happy porsches'
coming from motorbikes (i love cars too though) i allways laugh when people talk about speeds around 120... i sneezed on my VTR the otherday and hit 120! i was only in 4th! add onto that the *** clenching acceleration (i'm sure you do this to stay on the seat using suction...) the horizon just seems to get fired towards you when you squeeze the throttle...

Fara,
Yup.. thats the one I like. :D
The huge wing helps in cornering, keeps alot of downforce. However that wing is massive.. might be overkill. Unless its a pikes peek racer.
Ahh.. I really want my car back!!

humm yeah but theres a difference between a bit of wing and strapping an aircraft to your car...
if you check out formula one (do you get that over there?) the cars have a wing at the front and at the back (both of which are smaller than the one on that porsche) and they are very finely balenced so that you get the maximum speed (too much wing limits this) and the maximum grip around corners (too little wing limits this)
obviously the front of the car is just as important (possibly more important?) than the back... after all you can't steer without grip at the front...

After being at the track I really can't condone driving fast on public roads but I'd be a hypocrite if I said I don't do it. Roads don't have corner marshalls and yellow flags and @ speed they're needed.
Seeing as the STi's were approaching 150 on the straights I think the porches need the wing to keep their a$$ down. It's not like a honda with a stupid big DTM wing, full body kit, and a fart can that still has the stock motor in it. All those people did was make the car slower. This is race, not rice. ;)
I'll post all the dates of the track events and auto-x events we will be at so if you're local or just want to see really nice cars, stop on by and we'll meet up and take a trip through the pits.

nice quote :)
generally on the roads i am a very slow driver, but i'm not worried about using the speed when its safe to do so and its required (that "sneeze" was overtaking)
in england nowadays its far too easy to get caught with all the static and mobile speed cameras...
