Ive never tried it, but they work really well if you build them right. The fun thing about evaporative cooling is that you can produce temperatures below ambient. The bad thing about them is that they raise the humidity. These are best left outside if you can manage it, although you will have to refill it every day or so.

hey, i have seen some designs that use a shower head at the top of the bong and then a fan on a side shoot...apparently it wokred really well...

evaporative coolers work very well but they are very high up keep devices you'll need to put in several gallons of water per week if you have a peltier in your system, thats how fast it will go through water.
also you will need a powerfull pump to lift the water that high.

I had one:
temps were:
22°C room temp
20°C water temp
26°C idle
32°C under load
with a XP1600+@1733@2.04v
refilling: 'bout 10l/week
A m8 had a doubel (!) bong to cool his double (!) pelt setup (2*176w) and got some really low temps (I forgotn but near freezing point ), but he had to keep his window open cause otherwise they would be wet of condensation  :D

I was thinking about putting a toilet filler valve and float to keep up the water
I was planing on making the bong about 4 feet high. I have a eheim 1250 think this will be OK?
Let ya know how I make out :)

i like the toilet filler idea... nice one ;)
4' will be no problem for the ehiem, it's got a 6' head so anything less than that will be fine

I'm not sure the eheim 1250 will cope...I used the 1060 (2250 l/h) and that worked fine, but my bong was about 6.5 feet.
i did my bong today....
just 4 fun ;-)
i dunno in feet.....
but its 1.2m tall ;P
