I got a newer car, a 1988 lincoln towncar, immaculate interior and exterior, 86000 orig miles (which beats my current beast at 227000 miles)(ford 5.0 MPFI)i got the car for 200.00 and went to add coolant because it was low and i heard splashing under the car.
turned out to be a freeze out plug gone malignant. so after a short trip to r&s strauss for a rubber plug (without the right tools the metal ones are near impossible to install over the motor mounts without removing the engine) so i replaced it, tighened it up fine and went to pressure test it so i added a gallon of coolant and heard splashing once again (****) so i looke under the carr and it was pouring from the OTHER SIDE!!!.
i went under and looked closer to verify, wound up soaking my head and hair in a coolant/catlitter bath (from the first spillage cleanup) and cursed the darn thing till i got fed up and went to take a shower.
yup, its another freeze out plug gone to crap.
Fara happenesd to stop by before i began the first plug and high-tailed it out of there before i could recruit his help (smart man).
I think his chaos aura was in full swing before he left because the other sided didnt leak the first time i added coolant...hmmmm.
the second plug will require ramps or a lift because frame bars need to be removed to do the other plug.
