Water is not quite cold enough yet but it is getting there.

Sorry, maybe I'm a bit behind, what kind of chiller are you using?

Well its a homemade rig, I boght a fridge and stripped out the compressor, Condensor, and evaporator. and made a chiller for around 7 gallons of Water/Antifreeze mix. Water Temps are currently at around 2c. I am hoping to get them to around -10c. Thing is the compressor may be over powered with the CPU and the 226w pelt. So this weekend I will try taking off the pelt and see what my reults are then.

The setup is ghetto now but its not the looks that really matter its the performance;)

fantastic! i'd be quite happy with 10c cpu temps!
how do you think the compressor is holding up? and whats the setup? i'm assuming you have the cold circuit submerged in the cool box that is acting like your resovoir right? how cold is the water?

Dicki the compressor is sitting behind the cooler right now, you just can't see it in the pic. And yes the evaporator is in the cooler.

Wes, thanks m8 and yes its so ghetto its awesome:D

what's in the box? Antifreeze?
Sorry, just read the post again =)
excellent setup NY, are you getting any condenstaion in your case ?

ghetto is the only way to go when your doing extreme cooling... i can't wait to get my digital camera (next week hopefully :) ) so i can show off my system :D

Its a mix of Water and Havoline Dexcool Antifreeze. 4:3 Ratio it will be good to about -28c in this ratio.
KMS no detectable condensation so far.
I have come to one major conclusion so far I am totally overpowering the compressor. Its a 190w unit and with efficiancy of 1.5 it can handle 285w of heat but with around 340w form the pelt running at 12.4v and the XP at 2gigs + thats 110w so 450 watts of heat is WAY too much. I just can't get my water temps to stabilize. I am gonna try ditching the pelt soon and going straight chilled water. Hopefully I will get some better results.

Hey Northern, can you tell me how you stripped out the fridge, as I have a fridge and want to pull out the condensor, coils and evaporator or what ever it is, I just don't know where to start or what I am looking for... Or what to do, how difficult is this???

Well honestly it wasn't hard to do but it was time consuming. I will be doing up a lil article with pics on how to do this. It should be ready in a week or so.
But the basics are to just cut it out. Then after you get it all out put the evaporator(the part that gets cold) in some sort of cooler and fill it with fluid. Drop in your pump and you are off.
Though if you are using a mini fridge I doubt the compressor will be strong enough.

has it stabilised yet NY ? or have the pelts gone ?

N Yank,
have you thought about using methanol???
check this out, it's a really good read. The temp loss doesn't look too bad and the flow is MUCH better than the glycol.
It's a pretty long thread, just make sure you make down to the graphs. If you read the whole thing, there's also a lot of good info about waterblocks too.....

Pelt is gone there was too much load. I am seeing single digit loads right now and sub zero c at idle right now. But I haven't had much time to mess yet, some RL stuff come up.
Hundekot, I will check out that link. I was going to use Methanol as that is what is used in windshield washer fluid. But no one is selling it right now since its the summer so they are selling a summer version without the methanol.

NY-
try a local autoparts store like NAPA, they also sell methanol for big truck airbrake antifreeze. If I can find it up here in Kodiak, AK.
I'm pretty sure you can find it down in the lower 48 a lot easier. Plus that, it's only like 8 bucks a gallon....

For your water chiller, was that from a full size fridge? I was also wondering how you can tell it's too much load, did it stop cooling?
Reason i'm asking is I'm trying to get an idea if what I have for the system i'm building is going to be enough.
This might help, this is for the fridge that's going to be housing my computer, all it is is just a bunch of copper strips that I cut and bent, then A/S epoxied to the comp, put an 80mm fan blowing on it, and it barely even gets warm even after running 24hrs for about 4 days for testing.

Yeah it was from a full-sized fridge. With the pelt and CPU the water temps would just not stay, once the Computer was turned on they would just gradually rise no matter what I did. Now with out the pelt they will stay stable which is good. Here is what I have so far.

I would like to see single digits at this speed but I don't think it will happen. But just getting this much out of a 2000+ is great. Its almost a 400mhz o'clock.

Good work NY:) That is a nice overclock.
Man, I need better cooling...
(My pelt is on the way...should be here in a week).
Nice temps!! ;-)

welcome to the board :)
wow excellent results with that duron  in my experiences with durons they all tend to top out at 1.1 - 1.2 ghz but phase change cooling obviously changes all of that! man i'm looking forward to this weekend :D
