PCTel claimed it has released software today which will allow desktop or notebook PCs to become wireless access points without routers or external WAPs.
It Segue Sam software, claimed PCTel, will allow PCs with direct broadband connections to act as access points without buying external devices.
It said it will offer a bundle 802.11x client adaptor with the software, which automatically configures itself.
Applications might include setting up wireless networks off site, and the firm claimed that Segue Sam includes security features to prevent unauthorised people butting into the network
