Anonomous Whois Info

Alright, so i want to make my whois info on my domain anonymous. Can i just go in and change all the info to anonymous? or is there something illegal about that? just dont want any and everyone to be able to get all my info and spam me, or worse show up at my house.

Some companies offer a service not to list the information. Others you can just go in and put fake information in the whois. Id leave a valid email address though.
