I just purchased the D-Link AirPlus Wireless PCI Network card DWL-520+.. I installed it, and my PC started to lock up...The screen would just freeze...Does it at random times....Well the card screwed up and I took it out of my Machine for a while...no crashes...I reinstalled the card and today it froze...whats the deal?

BTW I dont have the computer on a network yet, im waiting for my brothers computer to get here first....if that makes a difference

I have the latest NIC and mobo drivers...

Have you tried just putting it in a different slot? Also, maybe the card is bung ... got another pc you can test it in?
A good idea is also to just do a search for the model name and the word "conflicts" or "crashing" in google ... that will sometimes find others who have been having the same problems. :)

Do you have a Creative Soundblaster in the machine?

Following Ranger's advice and searching for "DWL-520+ problems" on Google Forums I found a lot of complaints similar to yours...

I have a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 5.1. Does that mess things up?

So i ran defrag and apparently it has cleared up the system freezes??? I dont know why?

Anyway back to the wireless nic, my system will recognize it sometimes and sometimes it wont. The device manage says that no drivers are installed for the networking device but the systray says that the D-Link 520+ wireless card not present. What is wrong with my system?

The reason I asked was because some of the google threads talked about IRQ problems with a Creative soundblaster card. Does the NIC work if you take the sound card out?

If the device manager says drivers aren't installed what happens when you try to install the drivers through it? It just doesn't work?

The system tray icon is probably the software that comes with the card...I doubt the software requires drivers to run.
