My roof was damaged about a week or so ago during a windstorm. Tonight, we discovered that my bedroom was raining before we went to bed, and my fairly new $800 bed is now soaked with black foul smelling liquid, as well as some of my blankets.
My landlord said theres nothing he can do about it tonight. Is he liable for the damage??
I need advice. And any advice on how to try my bed would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Please forgive the bluntness for how this might sound, but if you didn't have rentors insurance your ****ed.
being a former tennant myself, i took out a policy every year, it was about 200.00 a year i think and covered a world of shtuff.
I reccommend rentors insurance for all tennants everywhere because, hey,...you never know.
Sorry dude :(
P.S. no I am not a broker ;)
try clean cold water and some fabreze and a wet/dry vac or rug shampooer on the bed.
the blankets fabreeze and shout and oxy-clean should do the trick

yes he is, but the question is, are you willing to fight it through the courts.
try to be reasonable with him and come to a compromise. ask him if he can replace or pay partial value for the stuff that got damaged beyond repair like your sheets and mattress' and stuff. if he is not willing to work with you then you should find out for sure if its worth fighting him through legal means.

Well, the landlord is looking for almost any excuse to avoid paying for this. He thinks the bed is perfectly fine now. He did repair the roof today. He 'looked' at the electric, but frankily i'm not impressed. I'm still worried about turning it on.
He said if we choose to replace the bed, he will 'help a little'. Whatever.
Im gonna try to clean the bed tonight. See if I can't make it at least usable until I can afford to replace it. Any tips/suggestions to prevent mold/algea growth, get rid of the smell etc?
Febreeze
Clorox
Formula 409 (dirt spots)
Rubbing Alcohol
A little heaterfan might help. Can I poor rubbing alcohol right down the fabric?

Player0 .. do you not have any house & contents type insurance? Surely that would be your best bet as far as the bed goes? (they might just pay out to have it professionally cleaned or something).
I'd say just keep hammering at your landlord about the electrics ... or if you have a sparky friend you can call on to check it out that might be good too. :)
Best of luck dude!

just in case you got any oily goop you should try a little pine sol, it cuts grease real nice and doesn't smell half bad.;)

The bleach will help wonders...just dont mix 2 kinds of cleaners at once...never know what kind of fumes you could make.

well that sucks the big 1 player.
My land lord has it in our lease agreement that if an y thing like that happends she can not be held liable. I sugest you look at your agreemnet and look up your local renters/tenant rights laws.
Mold/mildew is bad stuff. I would get warm soapy water with a mild disenfectant to clean the bed. Dry it with carpet dryer.

Ive tried everything, and this bed is rancid. I went out and bought a new one yesterday. The landlord decided he would only give me $200 for the damage. I also went and got renters insurance yesterday, or well started too. In the end, it was an expensive mess. And Im still sleeping on the air mattress until next Sunday. I wake up in so much pain on that thing...sucks. Gone three days without any sleep, although I did sleep okay last night, just woke up shitty.
Its all just karma for spending money on a 9800XT.
