you would be, Bill payes your wages!!!!!!!!

am tempted by windows XP, but i dont like anything that microsoft produces that hasnt had at least 1 service pack, and its a little too big brother for my liking.

Windows 2000 is more my thing, now nicley tried and tested, not horrible menus and skins to deal with, but maybe i am being a little too traditional???

also, whats involved with installing these on athlon board now a days. with windows 2000 i just throw service pack 2 on, or should i be using the via 4in1 drivers now??

I agree with Lee on using XP. It really ain't too bad for a mickeysoft product (sorry Lee). I had to be won over from 2k but I'm starting to like XP better. I still run 2k on my server but XP's on my main box.

Do what I did on the begining. Dual boot 2k and XP, get used to XP and if you have problems boot to 2k. Just a thought. ;)

I prefer WindowsXP to 2k now as well, just make sure to pick up all the pre-sp1 fixes on windows update. With SP1 being released within a couple months I think, installing it now might be a good move anyway :)

 MrP! I just grabbed an 1800 XP as well, plus a kx7-333r and a stick of CorsairXMS off of Newegg; hopefully it will be here before the weekend. So, I guess we can see who blows up their system first. :D :D

I have WinXP Pro and it works great. :) Just grab the service packs after installation. I've never needed to install the 4in1's, but I finally did last week and they're running just fine. Haven't noticed any improvements though, but no glitches either.

Another vote for Win XP here too:)

A few months ago I was sure that the only way my machines would be running anything else besides Win 2k was when i was dead and someone else had the computers.

But after just a few weeks I really like XP Pro much more than Win 2k.

BTW, as some of the later 4in1 drivers (4.39 and later) are newer than what's included in Win XP, I recommend installing them. My usual routine is:
Install Win XP
Install 4in1
Install custom video and sound drivers (if you want more than what XP offers)
Unstall XP updates

Good luck..and have fun...I love building new systems:D

A quote from "Using Windows XP" a 1,000 page book published by QUE"
"In all ways WinXP is superior to any operating system Microsoft has ever produced."
Having been around since DOS 1, I would have to agree.

Good luck with those new systems guys.
It will be interesting to see how the Gigabyte and Abit mobos compare on the same CPU!

Ahhhhh...no Wes....nooooooo! Come back from the dark side Wes. Come back from that dreaded Teletubbie land:)

Lee...if you're reading...what the hell was MS thinking with that Teletubbie landscape? Whoever approved that needs to lay off the crack.

And btw...maybe im in the dark here...but Windows has all these pretty menus...but why on earth didnt they create skinning tools for it? So you can make your own Start menu themes, etc?? Shoulda been included with Plus!

Hi all,

Deerhunter:
Would you believe I started testing on Windows 1.0? That was a few days after it was stolen from Apple/Mac. Boy, do I remember the DOS 1.0 days. That was just after it was stolen from IBM
Man, we have been busy with our "software" acquisitions.

Mike:
What's wrong with Teletubbies? Hell, I am a teletubbie!!:D

Tom:
MS doesn't really have any skinning tools, but if ya go to http://www.windowsxp.nu/ , they have several skins and toys to make your life easier??

Take care, all............

Gosh, I'm so off topic it's not even funny...

But, if you're looking to skin or get a skin for XP, you might try either:

http://www.deskmod.com/
or
http://www.deviantart.com/

For the second one... there are 300,000+ pieces of digital art, writing, and skins... you may have to navigate a bit to find what you want. ;)
