I am new to the forum mainly because I am new to pc building (first endevor) and am having temp issues. I built a pc mainly for video editing and gaming (want to evenutally hook up to hdtv)

System:

2.8 Ghz p4
Abit IS7-G
1 Gig ram (two 512's)
120 GB 7200 rmp IDE harddrive for general use
2 120 GB SATA RAID 0 array for fun stuff.
Radion 9800 pro AIW
Antec Overture case (looks great with stereo)

I tried the stock heat sink and fan but temp climbed close to 75 C when gaming so I switch to a NEXUS PHT-3600 heat sink and fan combo this resulted in a drop of about 10 C

When gaming I now run about 65 C and about 50 C for general use.

Is this to hot? If so what would you recomend to cool things down without greatly increasing noise.

thanks.

Hi, welcome to the forums :)

Yeah, seems hot to me.

There are a lot of good fans out there. I'd look in to an SLK-900 or 947U. Check out Plycon.com.

You can pick your own fan, I suggest a mid-powered fan, and put it on a fan controller so you can adjust your own noise tolerance.

Make sure your using good Thermal Paste. I recommend Arctic Silver 5. If you are using stock stuff, or even worse, a thermal pad, your temperatures are going to be awful. Use a super thin layer, and make sure your mounting is pretty even.
