hey all.. looking for two new laptops under $1000 CAD..want both DVD drives on both/ for word processing/Universitiy stuff/maybe some power point presentations, etc.. any suggestions Dell? Toshiba..errr Compaq (yuck!:rolleyes: )..

I've only heard good things about IBM think pads. I havent been impressed with the Dells, but my friends all have dell laptops from about 3 years ago, maybe they have gotten better.
Alienware also cooks up a beastly laptop....desktop replacement is mroe like it, but thats gonna probably be more than 1k.

Dude..Thinkpads are very expensive here..i'm talking about 1 Grand Canadian..so thats like $750 USD..still lookin at Dell or Toshi..checking some Dell deals in Anandtech Hot Deal section.
I'm not looking for desktop replacement, just for doin simple University projects/research paper, etc..

under 1k is gonna be a pretty cheap laptop. Go with Dell or Compaq.

heh, i didnt know you were talking canadian. And i hadnt looked at ThinkPads in a while, and you're so right, they are SUPER expensive.

Hay notoriousformula, I found this list of canada vendors, I took a look at some of them but did not see any for under 1k, but maybe you will have better luck :)

I like Toshiba best. But IBM and Panasonic both have impressed me more than the others.

Can't go wrong w/ IBM.
I love my stinkpad T20, even upgraded the CPU from p3-700 to 1ghz
