View Full Version : Ignition kill/ Fuel kill

I've been playing with my car a lot latley. I've been getting little stuff in preperation for the new motor in the spring.

There are two things I want to do but I'm having trouble figuring it out. I want 2 killswitches. One for the engine electrical and one for fuel pump electrical. I want to be able to kill power to the engine and fuel in case of bad things (fire, accident, theft).

I put a switch in the ignition 12v line inbetween the ignition cylnder and my start button. It works and I have to have it switched on in order to start the car. After it starts I can hit the switch off and the enging keeps running. I thought it would kill the engine like turning the key to acc but it doesn't. I have lots of friends that like to press buttons and flip switches while asking "what does this do" so maybe it's better that it doesn't.

Now the fuel kill is giving me issue. The scooby has a intank pump that is pretty easy to get to (don't have to drop the tank). I figure a relay on the 12v line with a hidden switch somewhere. I'm wondering if this the best wat to do it. Do I have to run wire to the relay or is it possible to get something off the fuse panel. I'm thinking that the relay/switch would be better for theft reasons, partly the reason I'm doing this.

Also here are some before and after pictures of the dash panel I made for the car. There are a few gaps and stuff I don't like but I will fix it on the next one.

I have no clue what you're saying but it looks great :D

Are you asking whether you can break the circuit for the fuel pump through the fuse box in which case the answer is yes – find the fuse for the fuel pump. If you are asking can you power the relay from the fuse box and again the answer is yes – on most cars the electric fuel pump wire (bundle with many other things) runs on the driver side rail(s).

2:52 am your taking pictures of your car..... don't you ever sleep?
btw, i think you need a skull shifter knob, just my .02

It's not a firebird so no skull shift knob. It's not 2 AM. :) My headunit on my car decided to work again and I didn't fix the time yet.

I pretty much want to know what's the best way to rig a fuel cutoff switch. :) I have the switch, the relay and enough wire to wrap the car 3x. I just need to know how. :D

I'd break the line to the fuel pump and put the relay on that. But that's just me. I'd like to keep the other circuits that may be on the fuel pump fuse active.
(the wifes car has like 3 circuits on the fuse that supplies the fuel pump)

You really don't need a relay if the switch is big enough. The best way to do this is to cut the wire right after the fuse box - before I got into selling water blocks I had had an auto sound etc store. I also did installation for 3 yrs (incase anyone wonders :O ).

I kinda want it super stealth. That's why I'm thinking relay near the pump and a microswitch hidden somehwere. I also like Spl's point of other things on the fuel power from the fuse panel. I'm runing wire from the trunk for a rear fog light so runing another wire is no problem.

P.S. since you're were in the install biz do you know where to get good crimp-on connectors? Autozone is pretty weak in thier selection.

Oh yes if it a micro switch you will need a relay - As for the crimp my answer is don't use them - I always solder and you should too. It is the best way to do it and if you get really good at it then it will be easier then the crimp on's.

I've been in autosound 'Pro' for 14 years and have built a car that was 9th in the world in USAC.
Was a lot of fun.

I can solder but the tight confines of a car don't de me well. :)

About the best I'd do would be to solder the crimp-on conectors.

Also, anyone have a link to where I can get a red 1156 bulb? All I can find is the red LED bulbs at the local parts store.
