Ok, thanks to Mdzcpa I'm up and running on a fresh install of XP on 2 15g 7200 maxtors and loving it. I have a few questions though. Here's the rundown of my system.
KX7-333R
Radeon 64DDR VIVO
1600+ unlocked (somewhat. I'll explain)
1x 256 Corsair XMS3000
2x 15g ATA 100 7200 maxtors in RAID0
1x WD 120g BB
SB live 5.1
Netgear fa311
TDK 24/10/14 CD-RW
12x Creative DVD
Alpha pal8045 w/80mm delta she
Here are my problems.
1: It seems that I did'nt do the best job unlocking my CPU. I can't get all the multipliers to work. I can get 6x,11x,12.5x and maybe more but I'm still testing.
2: My sandra memory scores are lower than my A7V266-E's and not even close to the ones set in sandra SP1 KT333 chipset 2.5 PC2700. I haven't had too much time to play so I get some more while I'm playing with it. The settings are maxed out 2t3t2t 1t command.
3: I've been running Seti for 24 hours and it didn't go over 46c. I'm used to 50+ with my ASUS. This reading is from MBM. I haven't set up the DigiDoc yet.
4: Is the clock chip the hot little one by the DIMM slots? I want to put some passive cooling on it and any other chips people feel nessary.
I have more questions but I'm at work trying to remember them. It's been hell here this week and the job that was going to take us through the weekend got pulled off press this morning. :aargh!: and it was my brother's job so I have to deal with his pissed arse now:flust: . I'll be back later when I get home and calm down. :cannabis:
it's been one of those weeks :drink:

Very common...one or two of your bridge connections is no good. You need to remove the chip and try the unlock procedure again. Sometimes it takes a few tries.:)

Somethings definitely not set right in the BIOS. Your memory settings should be CAS 2, 4 way interleave, 2,5,2 1T. Now you will likely have to reduce aggressiveness of these settings as you overclock beyond 166mhz. But you always want to be set at CAS 2 and 4 way at a minimum. A common 200fsb setting for me is CAS 2, 4 way, 3,6,3 2T. You did not mention your CAS and bank interleave, so double check these.
And remember, until you overclock the FSB above 133, you will not get the great bandwidth numbers due to the CPU bus bottleneck. You need to get the chip fully unlocked, drop the multiplier, and press the FSB up with the memory running synchronously with the FSB.

I think the Asus mobos run notoriously high temp readings. My A7V266E reported high also. Your 46c after 24hours of SETI is not too bad. Is this overclocked? If it's not overclocked at all, it miht be considered just a little on the high side.

I've never found cooling of the extraneaous chips on the mobos to be of any significant value. Besides the northbridge and mosfets I'm not sure it's cost beneficial. But...it sounds like fun...so what the heck :D

A few tries? yup you can say that. I fought that thing so much that I managed to remove a lot of the top layer of the chip. If I go back and unlock it again I have to mask the bridges before I start to unlock it. It's a little more involved for me now. :aargh!: Fun like herpes.

That's at 11x 150fsb. I can't get too much higher. The CPU tops out around 1.725 max.

I have the stock HSF on the NB and a HS from a thermaltake ram cooler set on the mosfets. When I put a HS on the clock chip on my ASUS it went from 145fsb being the max to 155fsb so I agree what the heck.

Farabomb,
Sounds like you have a good overclock going there on that XP 1600+. Considering that, your temps are pretty good:).
Let me know if putting a HSF on the clock generator chip does help...may be I'll try it too:)
Hey, what about those memory settings?

Fara I take it that you are using superglue to fill the pits, try using Clear nail polish it comes off very easy with a non-acetone remover. So if you make a mistake it is very easily fixed.

NY,I use clear nail polish bolth to make the mask and to fill the pits. I'm just wondering if it might be better if I just get a new chip before I screw with this one and loose all the multipliers.
Mdzcpa, When I get home I'll tell you line for line. I think I have it maxed but I don't know.

Well then how come your top layer is coming off?

I must have tried to unlock it 20-30 times. Me cleaning off the Defroster paint with a pin made it come off :kill:
Maybe I can write a rewiew on how NOT to unlock a XP :p

LOL.
You should really try using conductive grease. It's not as permanent as defogger repair and you need to be careful not to smear the bridges, but it works much better. Easily removable too:)
Here's my unlocking "kit". Notice the tube of CircuitWorks Silver Condcutive Grease....good stuff.

This is how the bridges look when done....not pretty, but effective every time:)

Nice kit Mdzcpa but where's the magnifying glass? I have 20/15 vision and I have to use a loupe. :D
I was going to get the CW pen and sealer but I never got around to it. I have to get something because I redid the unlock so many times on the last one I had to cut the paint with come thinner to get enough to use so I'm all out of paint. I'd be worried about smearing the paste and shorting it but a lot of people use it. I glopped some clear nail polish on mine when I was done just to hold it.
let me finnish my seti dump and I'll check my memory settings.

directly from the BIOS setup screen.
current fsb:166
current dram:166
dram clock:166
dram timing:maual
cas:2
interleave:4 bank
2t
5t
2t
DQS input:auto 24 (I have no idea what this does)
DQS output:auto 40 (see above)
md drive high
cmd 1&3 high
cmd 2&4 high
enhance dram enabled
dram acess 2t
que depth 4 level (again clueless)
command rate 1t
dclk feedback delay auto (WTF)
there it is. I can get 150 but if I try 155, something I know my CPU can do it gets flaky. It looks right but I get
Int:2234
float:2127

Okay.
I know I asked before, but what version of Sandra are you running?
Your memory settings look fine.
What DIMM do you have the memory in?
You really need to get the FSB up to 166 and use the 1/5 PCI divisor. Right now your running you memory synchronously at only 150mhz which is not where you should be. That Corsair will due 185mhz.
Are you kicking up the memV and coreV ?
What do you have the CPU command decode set to?...s/b on FAST
Time to get all those mutlipliers working methinks.

Yea, I was dreading the thought of having to unlock this thing again. :( I have the 1/5 on now but the chip gets pissy at 155 11x The stick is in DIMM1 and I'm running sandra 2002 sp1. I haven't played too much with the voltages but I will. I'll be playing with it tonight/tommrow so I'll let you know how it goes.
Watercooling on the mind.........

Now this is better. 10.5x 166fsb. now let's see if it's stable

Ahhhhh...now you're getting into the higher bandwidth territory:) The good stuff starts at 166 and really begins to fly at about 180-190mhz. You may need to drop the DRAM Command to 2T to get above 185. And somewhere between 166 and 185 you may need to go back to 3,6,3 memory settings. But that's ok, the FSB increase more than makes up for the loss from the less aggressive settings.
Glad to see you are getting other multipliers to work...it makes all the difference.:)
