At work we're having a problem with "some" people (no, not me) spending FAR too much time on the net and not enough working. The boss is looking into some progs and I've been asked to do some research.
We're looking for something to restrict certian sites like Ebay and the ones with all the naughty bits. I'm curious if anyone out there has any info or can piont me in the right direction. Thanks.
Not sure if this is what your asking for...but recently due to certain sites my 12 year old son deemed worth of his attention.....had to install a cyberpatrol software called Cybersitter....Iam pleased as punch with the software...its a very easy to use and easily configurated to adapt to any use you deemed needed...furthermore the software will send me a email on a daily basis of the previous days activity on the kids computer...I do know you can block certain sites manually or you can go through checklist and choose those sites that you would like blocked....ie porn..mp3...shareware...cults...sex....ect..ect... .

The problem with filtering software is that they don't prevent people from going to proxy sites, and viewing things from there.
agreed wholeheartedly....However it does provide some type of deterent.......It has been my experience that most people that look at the porno/ or whatever else while on the clock is also the people that think that just cause they close the browser that all trace of who/what/when/where/and what they do is erased and no one is the wiser on what they did.......so sometimes the software if nothing else is a good tool for those ontheclock net addicts as a reminder of what they do on the computer on company time can be logged and scrutinized by the power that be......

That is exectly what I'm trying to do. I just need to shut off certian computers off. If I can acomplish that they won't put in the monitoring program. I just have to make it harder for certian people to sit and surf so maybe they can  work  while at work. Could I use a hosts file to shut off say ebay or whatever offending site??
