Hey guys check out this deal... this guy bought a 9600 "SE" from Best Buy, in the package he found 9600PRO with 2.8ns Samsung memory chips.. and it comes with with HL-2 (coupon).. later he checked the P/N number from this (http://apps.ati.com/102lookup/index.asp) ATI page which says its a says "RADEON 9600 PRO 128MB AGP VGA DVI-I TVOUT".

All this for $130 USD.. considering Half-Life 2 can be had for $35-50 so you are really paying $80-90 for a Radeon 9600 PRO 128MB. Now thats a Nice deal!

here are some pics to prove it:

how do u identify the 2.8ns chips? is it written on the videocard? Is there any sure way of knowing whether that's a 9600Pro inside.. Might get myself one in a local store.

Open the pack up and look first.
Pro: buy,.
SE: kick the living shit out of him!

j/k

You can identify the chips.. the BGA memory used on retail ATI video cards is from Samsung, in some cases from Infineon.. Check the stepping on the memory..Here is a small example, when i bought my 9800NP I got Samsung chips with this stepping.. "K4D263238E-GC33" You can decode the whole # using the key provided on the Samsung DDR memory page, but just to check the the memory speed read the last 2 digits, here "33"..that means its 3.3ns memory, "2A" = 2.8ns..I think same last two #s are used by Infineon..

Cheers!

nope.. thats not a picture of 9600 SE.. The pic is a 9800PRO with Red PCB, ATI 9600SE's use Green PCB and passive cooling on the core. not sure if they come with BGA or BBA memory chips..but Samsung DDR memory stepping is same for all type of chips.
