Im sure its a question raised 100 times a day.
amd duron 1300, or xp 1600...
in what mobo?
id like (if an xp) it to use internal diode (im spoiled by my celey)
otherwise price/performance will be my main consideration.. options are not needed.. dont need raid usb2.0.. nothing fancy.
thanks in advance

Hmmm..not really enough info to give a good recommendation. What is the intended purpose of the system? Gamer, SETI, LAN box, general purpose, web and email, etc?
Off the top of my head, if options do not matter, I would get the Abit KX7...it's void of all the bells and whistles, and the price has really come down on them. But, that's what I use, so i'm BIAS fro sure:)
Also, look into the 1800 XP, for only a few more dollars ($10) than the 1600 XP, you can get a nice performance increase.
I would need more info to give a more tailored mobo recommendation based on your needs and intended use:)

hi tripodel :)
mikes suggestions are spot on... the 1800 is definatly worth it for the extra cash and the choice of mobo strongly depends on what your doing let us know and we will see what we can suggest

more info, ok
i plan for it to be a seti box.. although im sure id use it for gaming.
the gaming aspect tho is second as i am quite content with the performance a geforce2 / celeron 800 give.
im just looking for a fast cruncher. after seeing my friends duron 1200 crunch them in 5hrs ... with 100mem fsb... i need one!
also, will amd be switching the entire xp line over to .13?
that was what i had intended if i bought the xp 1600... so i wouldnt have to unlock it to get a lower multiplier as im fairly sure it would oc better than its .18 counterpart

Right now only the tbred core is the only that is .13. The only Tbred that I have seen is the 2200+. They will be releasing 1800+ and above soon (already?) and there will be two different 1800+ on the shelf. The Palimino core and the throughbred so watch what you order if you want a Tbred. I beleive the MP's come unlocked but the Tbred has not passed MP testing. You still have to unlock the Tbred but it's different than the palimino core. Check Mdzcpa's (http://www.liquidninjas.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=636) how-to if you haven't yet.

ty, i will have to wait for that .13 1800 then :) i dont really plan on unlocking it.. so im looking for a good performing mobo at probably 150fsb...
Hullo,
my 2 penny worth
go for an XP1800+ pally core, from what i hear, the t'breads are supposed to run cooler, but because of the smaller core, it might even work out to be hotter, and from what i read, AMD state you need a cooler with a copper core to cool one properly.
as for the board, if its just a cruncher consider the likes of ECS. it might now have all the FSB options, but you can certainly oveclock it enough to keep you happy, and it will cost you about the same as a good nite on the town!!
have a look in the ECS forums of www.ocworkbench.com to see what you can do with one
