if you had 225.00+ a little more and the rigs in my sig, would you get an nf7-s and memory or upgrade to a 1/2" wc system?
i want to really OC instead of this 15x150 crap it boots at 11x160 but is unstable as hell. one of the a7v266-e's would be replaced and sit on a shelf.
please advise before i spend it on something stupid:)
I would like 200+fsb:)
also Fara and I are going to build a chiller from an old watercooler fountain guts i have, so the better the merrier

Synth,
Go for the NF7-S and mem :D The 3/4 system will always cool no matter what. ;) Plus we (team 11899) needs more help ;)

'nother NF7-S vote :)

NF7

You need more FSB than you can get out of that old KT266A. Just get bits and pieces of a 1/2 system. It will come together soon enough.

Then again you're still using that old ASUS. :poke2:

IS7 :)

IC7. The IS7 I messed with doesn't OC worth crap.

Speaking of the 2.4C... there are P4Cs out that have a capacitor (or whatever the little chip thingies are on the bottom of the chip) arrangement of the EE's, and are getting phenomenal OCs out of them. Linky Here (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=673354&perpage=20&pagenumber=1)... 3.55GHz on stock vcor, stock cooler.... wow

Anywho, Mushkin PC3500 would perform wonderful on either board :) I'm not sure the specifics of it, but the boards are finicky with any RAM that's not BH5 chips or CH5 chips or somesuch, haven't looked into it.

Ooh Wes, you sly penguin:)
you have wireless right? become an ISP for your area!
A buddy at work is doing it, he lives in a complex in PA and there is no cable or dsl around, but he has satalite. for less than a grand he can get a setup and has 4 or 5 interested parties already:)

now that the can of worms is open, is there any board on THIS (http://www.axiontech.com/subcat.php?cat=HARDWARE&sub1=COMPONENTS&sub2=MOTHERBOARDS&sub3=CHIPSET&sub4=AMD&sub5=NFORCE2+ULTRA400) page deserve attention? i dont have to buy it through them, i just wanted opinions on the models!
TIA:)

oh and memory choices here (http://www.axiontech.com/subcat.php?cat=HARDWARE&sub1=COMPONENTS&sub2=MEMORY+MODULES&sub3=DUAL+CHANNEL) ?

If I had to pick one of those I would choose the AOPEN:AK79D-400 Max.

oops i forgot to consider i want to keep my raid intact, i guess that limits the choices huh?
how about the memory?

dicki

i'd go for the nf7 and a good code xp1800 personally... get one of them clocking at 2.5ghz and you'll be laughing :)

I'd stick with a Abit and come Corsair if it was me. Second choice would be Mushkin and a Epox.

You have 2x256 DDR memory yes? For 512m? Thats fine for now.

If you have to stick to $226 on the spot, I'd still go P4. Keep your RAM.

IS7-E - $91
2.4C - $171

Still $260. Darn it. Just don't feed one of the kids for a week.

I just see more longevity in Intel than K7 right now. The IS7/IC7 boards are going to be good for longer than the NF2 I think. The performance and overclock is better.

You aren't going to see much of a noticible difference between the KT266a and the NF7. You'll notice it on the IS7 though. And most of them do overclock pretty good. If you get the P4, you have a great platform. The 2.4C will overclock to 3500mhz easy. Thats more CPU than you will ever need. Then you can buy new memory.

Beleive me, if your planning on buying memory, you will want to buy different memory for the P4 than the AMD. If you ever plan on upgrading to P4 in the future, but want to keep AMD for now, dont buy new memory. AMD likes LL memory. P4 likes high FSB memory. There's a rift developing, and you dont want to be stuck with the wrong style for your board.

Come on man...don't make me send you the $35 difference! ;)

LOL, you bust me up man!
my ddr is only crucial 2100+ and i currently have 1 stick in each of thge AMD's.
I suck.....:(
what makes it seem worse is that with the 7 pc's i have in my house, i'm ok with them, it is only the fact that i want something that will fold like a monster instead of these 3 day woots.
on 3/7 boxes i run the 4 woot service you posted and have been doing ok i guess but i would like to fold a woot in less than 2 days to make me happy, as f-d up as it sounds i'm only looking out for our team! i dont think my pc(s) are slow by a long shot, i'm actually pleased with the non DC performances to date.
should i see a shrink for this??

signed,

Envious.

P.S. on the waterbox i get 40c or below regardless of what i'm running, so a 1/2" system is only for vanity i guess!

48-50c on the air cooled vantec
