My Honda has an annoying problem. No matter how much I clean the window, it has streaks. Driving at night I get some serious glare on the windshield, and driving in to the sun in the morning and the evening is even worse, sun reflects off the dash on to the backside of the windshield and then straight in to my eyes (I see a glarey reflection of the dash top, that is). It can be really bad.

I've seen plenty of scratches and marks on windows before having always had old cars. But this doesn't seem to be a flaw in the glass. The streaks really do look like cleaning streaks, like someone used cheap windex, and they occur in a round kind of scrubbing pattern.

Yet when I attack the streaks with cleaner, I dont put a dent. I rub and rub and rub and get nowhere. I use this super glass cleaner foaming stuff...it takes all the road grease off, but it wont dent these streaks either. It's like they're inside the glass, if thats possible.

Is there anything I can try? Im half tempted to replace the whole windshield, but that seems extreme. Can they be restored, repolished or something?

You have steaks inside the window???

Dude, you have to keep your meat in the fridge not on the A/C vents. ;)

I have the same problem. I used rain-x fog-off on the inside and it worked for a while. You can use just water and newspaper and get your windows clean but it requires a little elbow grease.

I'd just turn on the A/C and put the defrost vents on. That may work.

Fara,

No, the streaks wont go away with any amount of scrubbing. They are embedded in to the windshield somehow. Its not dirt or fog.

a-ha!
its plastic, your windshield has 2 layers of glass with a plastic sheet in between them (standard) thats prolly what you see.
was it more noticable when the weather started to change?
that whole expand/contract thing is playing a part i'm sure.
lot of old hondas the windshield would turn white like a fog in places.
yup I think your windshield has cataracs.

Its always been noticible really, I always just thought no one had bothered to clean the windows right. But I tried this weekend, and the marks dont go away.

So great, it *could* be inside the window. Its not really a fog, but streaks. Maybe I can get a picture of it, but I doubt it.

Now, jsut to be sure its not on the outside, is there a safe way to repolish the window?

000 grade steel wool and windex concentrate.
regular brillo is too rough so double 0 or triple 0 "grit?" grade steel wool is your best bet.
you can substitute the windex concentrate for ammonia but the smell can be quite overpowering.

Srry no usefull info from me, My van has streak "like" optical distortions. But only when I'm wearing polarized sunnies and during the day of course. They also cannot be cleaned off. Anyone encountered that b4?
