Hello all! I need some help my current system is a xp2100 with artic silver III running on a asus a7v333 board, 4 antec fans mounted in an Antec sx 830 upgraded power supply to antec true power 430 if I remember correctly. My problem is I am running about 145 degress Fahrenheit unloaded. Under a load it jumps up to 165-170 degress Fahrenheit. I have the three of the four fans on exhaust and one on intake. What can I do to air cool this thing better?

Hi gts__,

First :D WELCOME :D to LN.

Secondly, a few questions:
How much AS III did you use? Too much or too little is like not using any.
Did you insure that the HSF is fully seated and correctly installed?
Where or what is measuring the temps? Incorrect or improperly placed temp probe can give very inaccurate readings.

Let's start from there.

Take care.........

Hi gts...

first off, stop using the cpu as soon as possible. Your full load temperatures are high enough to cause damage. What Heatsink are you using? It must not be mounted correctly. Youll want to keep your temperatures under 50c if you can, although up words of 55c to 60c is acceptable for non overclocked machines.

Also, making sure your temperature readings are accurate is important. They dont sound like unrealistic numbers to me hwoever, so I think you really are running that hot.

Definately remount your HSF to the CPU, following the instructions, and making sure the HSF is sitting perfectly flat.

Thanks for the welcome and the info! I am using a thermaltake 6cu with a copper shim. I am using Motherboard Monitor 5.0 and I did remove and install the processor, shim, artic silver and shim. I will load it and keep an eye on it for a day to see what happends.

Thanks again!

Hi gts__,

STRONGLY recommend that you take out the shim and DO NOT use it.

Put the AS III on the HSF and attach it to the CPU and I'll bet your temps drop a large amount, without the shim.

Take care.........

The shim might be causing the problem. They dont do alot in terms of benefit...maybe try with out it.

Thanks again for all your help! With a quick load test I am at 64 deg c and climbing. I also checked cables to make sure they did not block the air.

Another for removing the shim. If you look Here (http://www.liquidninjas.com/gallery/CaseMods/Farabomb1) all the way on the bottom left is my 1800+ that died because of a shim. I allways thought shim would help but now I have a 850 athlon that is chipped on all sides but works and a 1800+ that looks like it just came out of the box that doesn't.

If you're careful you shouldn't have to worry about cracking the core. If you keep running at the temp you are now you too can have a CPU to put in the bottom of your case ;)

Also ASUS boards tend to read 8-10c higher that that you're really running at. Still you are WAY too hot.

Oh yea, :beerm8s: Welcome :beerm8s:

Thanks Farabomb! I am holding at 65 with a load. Whats a good program to load and still see my temp monitor?

mbm.livewiredev.com

or cpucool.de (not as pretty but has a cooling function in it)

gts,

I am agreein with almost everyone else.. rid of the shim if you already havn't. All i've heard it bad news. Althou some hillbilly told me to use one if i bought the Thermaltake volcano 7+ but i asked ppl that new and they told me NO!!

Just be very carefull.
