I'm having a problem with a new system setup and its with my radeon 9500 pro card.

Here is my system setup.

asus a7n8x-x
athlon xp 2500+
512 ddr400 geil golden dragon
maxtor 80gb 8mb cache 7200 rpm
52x cdr cendyne
ati radeon 9500 pro (real ati, not sapphire or anything)
420watt powerlink powersupply

Here is my issue, I just bought all this stuff and put it all together. The machine won't post. No post beep errors, and no voice errors. I found if I take out the radeon card, and put in a old junk pci video card it posts fine. In fact I installed windows xp with this video card, and everything else on the board works fine. usb2.0, onboard sound, onboard network, all of it.

I flashed the bios of the motherboard to the newest version.

Here are my questions:
1: the power cord that comes with a radeon, is it needed? or can I just use a floppy drive port directly off the power supply?

2: What settings in the bios should I look for that might point out a conflict?

3: does it make sense that with both video cards in, the computer won't post to either one?

4: is it normal that when it posts to the pci card, I can hit the power switch during memory check and it shuts off instantly, but if I hit the power switch when the radeon is in and it doesn't post, I have to hold the switch for about 7-10 seconds for it to shut off?

any other pointers to figure out whats wrong would be a help also.

Thanks

:beerm8s: Welcome trolli :beerm8s:

I can't help you much right now but, yes you can use the floppy connector for the 9500Pro. I've had mine like that since I put mine in and no problems.

With no post beeps I don't think it's a dead card. It should boot with both cards but seems to be something's amiss.

Thanks for the welcome Farabomb.

Just out looking for any information I can get. I figured the wire would be the problem, but wanted to single that out as not a possiblity since its a difference.

I know the vid card isn't dead. I put it in an old machine with agp 2x running a 230watt power supply and it posted right up. I didn't do anything other then that to check out the card. I saw that it posted, and figured it would at least be able to get that far with the new system.

hy aciddreamz,
no insult taken, I would be more then happy to admit its just something stupid and small I overlooked.

I did try switching the primary video back and forth and didn't have any success.

I have been in talks with ASUS directly, and they want me to RMA the board back, they think its a faulty agp port. So once they get that I will hopefully get a good answer about it.

Well I just thought I would post on here again. I sent the board back to asus. I recieved a replacement board two days ago. Hooked everything back up together, and still no agp cards work.

After talking with a few people we have narrowed it down to more then likely being a faulty power supply (powerlink 420watt). I have my tower with me at work, and will be going to a co-workers house over lunch today to try it with his power supply, an enermax 450watt power supply. If it boots up fine, then I will be buying a thermaltake xaser 480watt power supply.
