Im trying to reflash my KX7 bios, but the only other PC i have right now is the KR7A.
I hot swapped the BIOS chips, but when I go to flash, the damn Award Flash utility wont let me flash the rom from this motherboard!!
There has GOT to be a way around this...help!

Hi Bud,
I don't think that they are interchangable between mobo's.
Take care...........

HOLY COW it worked!!
I found away to make Award Flash use the KX7 bios, and it brought the board completely back to life!
Funny...i bet I could have done the same to my first dead KX7. Now its kind of missing a northbridge.
Hail to hot swap!

Do you have any connections at the local computer store? Maybe they would let you hotflash with one of their boards. It doubtful but you can try. I won't be getting my KX7 till Wed or Thurs so I'm no help. :(
As far as I know you can only hot flash with the same board. I did it with my friend's A7V266-E after a before coffee morning BIOS flash when I flashed my A7V with a bios from a A7A.
EDIT: never mind all I said. Man, I type slow.

Hi Tom,
That's the third time in my life I have been wrong.

Hehe, i didnt even see your post lee until after i wrote mine hehe.
I honestly didnt think it was going to let me either, yet here I am.
Something is funny...making bios changes at 200mhz can be quite deadly to the flash for some reason.

it makes it unstable for some reason! your only running the board 50% quicker than it's meant to go...
anyway the reason flashing is dodgy with any kind of overclock is because eeproms and similer devices need a certain minimum time to write and they do not have an "ack" status line so you need to do all the timing externally, if your boards running at 200mhz instead of 133mhz all the timings will be screwy and you may not be giving the eeprom enough time to write

Dicki,
The problem isnt with flashing. I always flash at default speeds. The problem is with CMOS. Making changes in BIOS when the FSB is high.
Unfortunately, there is no way that I know of to make changes in BIOS for overclocking, without having overclocked settings hehe.
Sometimes Abit SoftMenu3 just messes up I guess.
