How much do you think I should pay for a TBI 88-95 chevy 350 v8? I want to swap out my 4.3l V6 and put in a 5.7l V8 so my truck might have some sort of acceleration above 50.

Also, I'm strippiing every pound from my truck, LOL.

Tailgate = 50 pounds
Exhaust to behind rear wheel = 25 pounds.

An other ideas of things that weigh a lot but aren't needed.
Thinking spare tire is a big one, and taking that out makes it 10000000 times easier to run a dual exhaust to under the bumper.

My truck is such a POS, I need to take some more recent pictures of it with my sexy blue MSD plug wires.

Hey M8,
How much of the motor are you looking for will change cost drastically. If your looking for a complete TBI (Bad, get TPI) engine your gonna pay Close to a $1,000 including wireing harness etc, if needed.

I would suggest peiceing together an engine. Grab a 350 Block, then get a set of rods, pistons, crank, cam, heads. Find a decent intaked and then the TBI unit it's self. I'm sure the Wireing harness can be found pretty cheap.

Either that or just pick up a shortblock and throw Holly's TBI unit on there.

Anyway I think your looking at $600-$1000 for a running or non running motor.

Godd Luck thou ;)

plus the added cost of new suspension, possibly steering parts and different brakes.
too much $$ imho.
keep in mind the GrandNational's engine is only a 6cyl 4.3!
perhaps that route would be better?

WES: Well, since all my gauges and everything are run by the TBI's ecm, I kinda want to stick with TBI. I should probably just get a block and heads, since I was planning on doing a performance rebuild including new pistons and rods before I put the engine in my truck. I was also planning on geting a new intake anyways since the heads I am going to use require a different intake. So all I'll really need to get (EFI/electrical whise) is a new throttle body and injectors since all the sensors should be reusable.

Synth: The actual engine swap itself should be a piece of cake since the 4.3l and 5.7 are pretty much the same engine, just the 350 is like 5" longer, and weighs a little more. I shouldn't have any steering problems, and if the front sags, guess I won't need to worry about lowering the front. Also, no problems with depth since I right now have about 15" between my radiator and the water pump.

BTW: the grand national was a turbo 3.8l (which is a V6 ver. of the 305), the syclone and typhoon were turbo 4.3l (which is a V6 ver. of the 350). I thought about turboing my 6, but find it more practical to do the almost bolt in swap to a 350. (remember, a 350 was a factory option in my truck, so it has all the holes and mounts for it).

cool! My whoops on the GN sorry:)
you have torsion bars or front coils? new coils are only about 60.00.
just check steering box clearance ya never know :)

NP on the GN thing man. I should double check though that I have enough slack in all the wiring and fuel lines since 350 is a littler longer. And also check the power steering lines :D

what I mean about not having to lower the front, is eventually I plan on lowering the back a bit and putting on 20s.

Sounds good M8. Hope it works well.

I wonder how a syclone motor (4.3L turbo) in a full sized truck would do? My bosses syclone runs high to mid 12's, while he's slowing down ;)

Put this in your truck, you would be the man.

With the compression ratio and forged internals its just begging for some sort of forced induction!

Ooooooooh, wish I had the money to put that in and put a big azz blower on it. Would haul some major *** in my truck.

But my parents say I can't put in a V8, so I'm either going to put in a Syclone engine/rebuild my 6 and turbo it, or one weekend swap in a v8 at someone elses house.
