Ok, this question pertains to my 1989 chevy 1500 2wd truck.
My brakes were working pretty good around wensday of last week, I could do a brakestand, and the front brakes would hold the truck still while the rear brakes wouldn't engange.
The whole time my rear brakes haven't been working to good, but that isn't too big of a deal, since my truck has almost no weight on the rear tires anyways, and I usually downshift to help slow down.
Now, the last couple of days, I have been driving my truck, and the brakes seem to not work that good (cannot lock the front tires If I slam on the brakes), and I have a pulsating feeling in the pedal and throughout the truck as if my front break pads are totally gone and I am grinding the rivets on the rotors.
So this morning, I took my front pads off. The right side pads looked like they had about 3/4 life left on both pads. These pads were raybestos lifetime warranty pads. Now, on the left side, the inner pad was worn down most of the way, and the outer pad was barely worn at all. Then, upon closer inspection I found that the back side of both rotors have tons of what look like valleys and the surface is like that of a piece of broken cast material. I put on some different pads, because I had them sitting around, and I thought maybe the material on those pads ruins the rotors. So as I was driving today, I still have the same symptoms, and I can no longer do a brakestand. The truck just starts moving forward, or if I slam on the brakes, the engine bogs really bad and then dies due to the rear brakes engaging.
I am going to try bleeding the brakes again. The last time, bleeding the left rear seemed to firm up the pedal and get the front tires to lock. Two of my bleeder screws are so rusted in, that I cannot get them loose. Do you guys have any other ideas as to what could be the problem, Especially the wierd wear on the back face of the rotors. I do not ever remember through the truck's whole life it having been driven with pads worn down to the rivets.
Thanks guys for any help.
