I just thought I'd voice my opinion on plextor aswell.... they suck!!! there is so much hype about how good they are, while my firsy CDRW broke within 6 months of owning it. Here's another broken plextor... now i've never heard of the cheaper brands lasting any shorter than the more expensive :(

They both appear to have the same (or similar specs) so get the cheapest. I suggest you ignore the RW speed as really nobody bothers to use re-writable media so it's not something you should worry about.

Aye, get which one is cheaper. Can't go wrong with Lite-On :)

Try it in another system? I have that problem all the time with my CD-RW, and a simple reboot fixes it for at least a few more CD loads.

I heard that Plextor was the best for copying copy right discs without problems, such as O/S discs like 98 and XP. Also discs like Diablo 2 and the sorts... but I could have heard wrong.

mine has the same problem pistol, problems with the drawer and recognizing discs.... although mine is an older version at 8/4/32 and I don't even use it anymore.

Plextor pretty much sucks, seems they are currently riding on there name :( On the other hand Lite-on just keeps getting better! Thats all i use now, absolutely zero failures, and every drive 40x, and up, is the same guts, a firmware flash will get you top of the line.... As for cloning cds the Lite-on's are currently about the most supported and capable....

Going on about 1 1/2 years with no problems on my "Plextor" 40x and i use it a whole lot.Ive had zero problems with it so far.Lite-Ons are good but i think a bit on the noisy side.I had to switch back to my pioneer 16x dvd-rom cause the free lite-on 16x dvd-rom i got was way too noisy:(

1.5 years ago Plextor made quality drives, no arguing that point, unfortunately not the case with current offerings. I've got 2 Liteon 166 DVD drives, one 40x writer, and two 48x writers, all the writers sport the 52x firmware, they all have had a work out, my oldest has probably burned in excess of 1500 CDs. No problems or noise with any of them, although when they get to spinning at full speed (52x) they can be quite loud, but that is no different than any other high speed drive I've had...

Best part about the Lite-on, not one of them cost me over $45!!

That's all down to software, as long as you use the right software you can copy anything. I think Alcohol 120 is supposed to be the best out there for copy copyright discs.

OK I tried this writer in another machine and it knows there's a disk in there but doesnt read it,so I have an old pioneer dvd that I figured I would put back into my ka7,once I did that now it wont boot from my HD,thought maybe there was a problem with the pioneer but I did have it running on my KF7,then I noticed the damn caps on the MB were leaking, this is my 3rd and last KA7,anyway time to order up that new CD burner,Thanks for the help ppl :)
