The Bush administration has taken its efforts to bolster private sector support for critical infrastructure protection on the road to encourage companies to shore up their networks against hackers and cyberterrorists on their own before the government will be forced to step in with regulations.

I hope it never comes to the point that the government has to step in. In all of my experience with the government I've seen far too much currouption and total back asswards methods of protocol. If the government were to step in we would find a whole new world on the net and I can't see that it would be a good thing. The government has too many people that seem to think that making a law deeming something illegal will stop someone from doing what they put their mind to. Criminals don't listen to laws anyway so the people that get affected are the "law abiding" citizen.

I feel Big brother (the government) has no place on the net. I'm aware that the military was the driving force behind networking but I beleive they never thought it would get as huge as it has. I think there are more than enough "good" people that have FAR more knowalge of the net than anyone that the government would appoint to the office if it came to that. It would end up being someone's son/daughter that was owed a favor and the only thing they know about computing is "the big button turns it on" well, unless they give Kevin Mitnick ( I think that's the spelling) the job  But he can't even go into best buy and hit the enter key on a floor model without getting arrested.

We, meaning anyone that uses a computer, have to make shure we at least try our damnest to keep the infrastructure intact with out government intervention or we're all up the creek without the paddle. With the laws they want to impose making it illegal to build computers and/or putting stipulations making it cost prohibitive to build your own they are taking away our freedom and letting the weak willed "Humans" that call themselves terrorists win.

I know some will dismiss me as some anti-government crack pot. This is not the case. The governmental system as a whole works but there are a lot of peolpe in power that may not have our best interests in mind. Meaning, if came to the choice of making money for themselves or doing something that would help the country as a whole they would take the cash and run. We need government to protect us with the milatary and keep the country running. I don't know the answers on how to fix the government but I do know we don't need them mucking up the net under the guise of national security.

We still live in the land of the free. That makes us a target. If we have all sorts of laws we may not stay the land of the free and I'd rather not think of something like that. I know we have a fair ammount of members from the other side of the pond. I beleive very much that it's also you at risk too. Since most of the world has sided with the US you're also a target. We have to remove the peolpe that can't work and play well with others and put them somewhere where thay can go meet allah or whoever they kill others in his name.

:aargh!:

Sorry about being so long winded and I know I might catch some heat for this but it's something that's been bothering me for a while and I had to let it out. You guys have no idea how long this took me. I can't type and my grammar sucks. I have about 3 million in 50 cent words in my head but I can only spell $300.00 worth. Nevermind the fact that I tend type my words backwards and have to go back and change them. Now I feel better. Thanks.
