View Full Version : What pump to get for a Cascade block?

OK, so I've placed payment to Cathar for a Cascade waterblock, and I've bought my heatercores (9.75 x 6.5 x 2 with 5/8" barbs), now I need to decide on a pump. The block will have its own heatercore and radiator. I had planned to run pump>heatercore>cascade>res>pump. What pump is best? Should I have lots of head? Lots of flow? What brand?

Thanks!

I got my cascade in last week. It looks great. I think it will respond best to lots of head pressure, since its kind of a water jet. I would say an Eheim 1260 which has 12ft of head.

I would have to say Cathar gave some pretty solid choices in his reply, Player0's recomendation is a great one as well.....

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go with the Danner Magdrive 3 that Mr. Forster recommended for both my Cascade loop and my MCW50-T loop.

I ran the Cascade with this pump:

http://www.employees.org/~slf/images/tinypump.jpg

It's 3cm x 4.5cm x 4.5cm in size. The pump is rated for 200lph (~3.3lpm) with a pressure head of 0.53m (~1.7'). When attached to the Cascade plus two heater-cores in series, it was pushing a measly 1.5lpm (~0.4gpm).

I only lost about 2.5C on the overclocked CPU temperature under load in comparison to the Iwaki MD-30RZ which has a 8.0m (~25') pressure head, with the water was much cooler as a result.

The Cascade doesn't need a super-large pump to do well. With that little baby pump it was about the equal of a White Water using an Eheim 1250.
