View Full Version : newbie question about pumps and resevoirs.??

I'm thinking of going with a dual radiator. I like the idea of having a pump submerged in water for extra noise damping. However, the pumps like the ehim 1250 and the hydro pumps all seem too big to fit in resevoirs that are for sale on the main web sites. Any suggestions? I want it to fit in a case. Otherwise i might just have a resevoir inline with a pump.
Are all resevoirs self bleeding? Like the innovatek one?
On another note, is there any site that tells you how to bleed the system with a resevoir?
thanks

:D:DWELCOME:D:D to Liquid Ninjas, aadoyle!
The noise of the pump is mainly dependent on how you mount it. If properly mounted it's likely you will hardly notice it.
Self made resivoirs are fairly common here. I believe the common recipe is an electrical box from Home Depot sealed with silicone sealant and a pair of barbs drilled in it as seen here (http://www.liquidninjas.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=179&password=&sort=1&cat=3004&page=4).
I'm sure others can help cover the rest of your questions. :)

WELCOME TO LN aadoyle!
if you need something smaller than an eheim, you can always try out via aquas or hydors.
i use an eheim 1048 so it aint too huge and fits nicely in my case.
right now i have it mounted inside my case with a somewhat thick layer of paper towels folded underneath as dampening material. it works okay for now.
i just have to rummage around and find an old mouse pad to cut up to use as dampening material.
you can put a pump inside your res, but it might dump more heat into the res that way. but prolly not in a very detrimental way.
good luck!

I went with a home depot special, if you look at the small tube loop, I use that for filling and bleeding.
To fill the system, I detach the tube from the top of the resi, and stick it in a container holding the water/antifreeze to add. I have another lenght of tube that I attach to the top barb. If the air doesn't escape fast enough I can suck the air out while the pump is running. I can fill and bleed the system in less than 5 minutes.
I also think that its best to put the pump outside of the resi as they do create heat. Additionally if you have it plumbed outside initially, it's easier to change out a bad pump or upgrade to a bigger one...

Welcome to LiquidNinjas! Resevoirs are real simple, they provide a place to trap and release the air, the air trapped in the res is replaced by water. So yes all resevoirs are able to bleed the air from your system.
I would also stay clear of the innovatek Res, they are pretty over priced IMO. As ralc_c said, DANGER DEN (http://www.dangerden.com/mall/Misc_Hardware/tubing.asp) , CRITICOOL (http://www.criticool.com/7accessories.html) , offer some great choice as does D-Tek Customs (http://www.dtekcustoms.com/product.asp?0=207&1=231&3=35) !
