boy does this suck....my favorite board .....my epox 8kha+ w/ volt mods!! what a shame.
and i was just getting use to OC'ing the heck out of my new XP too.
shit, i hope this damn epoxy really is rated for 2500 psi......well atleast 20-25 anyways:(
if it doesnt work, anyone got any bright ideas about how im gonna refrain from using the mb mounting holes around the socket. man i hate them damn things:mad:

Bummer to hear about your broken socket A tabs:(
But it surprises me you even use the tabs if you're water cooling. There is no better way to provide a slip free waterblock mounting than with those 4 holes. I've found the hoses just cause to much twisting pressure to even consider using the tabs. In addition, you can get much more pressure on the core using the holes, and this greatly improves the efficiency of heat transference.
If your air cooling...thats a different story. Tabs or holes are about the same (to me anyway). But it looks like it may be time for an Swiftech HSF which uses those holes. It would be a bad thing to have the glue fail and have a HSF fall of while the system is on.

when you say half do you mean all 3 lugs on one side? or is it another combination...
depending on the heatsink your using you could try a mounting system using all three lugs on each side or else go for the most secure route which is the 4 round the socket holes... there is no other way to mount a decent sized heatsink simply due to weight problems... as you've discovered the lugs can't take much pressure ( and you need pressure for good heat transfer ) and they also don't keep a heavy heatsink flat when the mobo is mounted vertically...
get a 4 mounting hole heat sink... you know it makes sense ;)

If the swifty is too much $$$ try an Alpha PAL8045 (http://www.micforg.co.jp/cat_pfe.html) I couldn't be happier with mine. Making me put off my H20 system for a while is it's only shortcoming in my eyes ;)

Ive tried repairing sockets with glue and it never works unfortunately. If you didnt break all three off, go with the ThermalRight AX7. Takes 80mm fans, cools like a dream, and you can get it minus the fan for $25. It uses all three socket tabs.
If you broke them all off, your stuck with the mobo mounting holes. Not sure why you dont like them, I wish all heatsinks used them hehe :)

how much did u chunk off i have chipped them several times, as long as u have some stubbag the pressure will hold it on...

I would'nt trust just a stub. If you bump into the case, something I've done many a stumbling night and it pops off while the computer's live and that 6 pounds of copper falls on your GF4 4600 and your XP you just spent 3 hours unlocking goes up in smoke. You are going to pitch a bitch. I lost a 1800+ to improper mounting and I was quite pissed to say the least.

as far as using the lugs not being as efficient as using the mounting holes in the MB..i would have to disagree considering what ive designed to utilize the lugs. i can get just as much pressure on the block using the lugs and dont have to worry about the MB bending because of the force on it....well i used to be able to with the lugs.....not anymore :=(
three off of one side because i didnt solder the bracket that utilizes all three of the lugs well enough and when it broke loose on one side, it took 2 of them completely off from binding and the other is just sitting there about to fall off and just begging to.
well im stuck with the damn mounting holes anyway, atleast until my new MB arrives.i dont like using them though because it takes up so much space. \you see im designing a new watercooling system and am trying to steer away from using the mounting holes for the design just in case they actually do , do away with the holes altogether. and it was going along just fine for a month and BAM!!.....bracket broke off and there went my lugs!!
just goes to show me that i will definatelly have to use a solid piece of metal for the bracket/mounting mechanism to avoid having this happen again;)
oh and i myself would never go back to air cooling for nothing or nobody!! just cant match the performance of watercooling ,using air ! cant stand the sound of the 747 turbines blaring from under my desk!it very nice to actually be able to hear my hard drive churning away for once instead of the "windtunnel" that i used to have in there

true bending the motherboard is a bit of a bugger... but i allways use a plate of something (metal at the moment but plastic would work too) behind the mobo to stop that...
those little plastic tabs scare me... i've seen too many brake so i would need a lot of convincing before i stuck a heavy cooler onto my processor using those tabs

Umm... Why don't they make the lugs metal anyway? I mean, I know all about keeping costs down, but as much as you hear about this, and as bad as it would be, I think I'd shell out an extra 20 cents per mobo to have this feature!

i agree! damn it motherboard manufacturers......get your stuff together.
you guyz could atleast make the plastic stronger if not made of a strong nonconductive metal!
give us a break:2guns:
