If you're looking into TEC cooling, I'd go ahead and do it right and pair it with watercooling.
To keep that decently cooled you need a vantec tornado or the equivilent of.

ummm...why is everyone water coolin crazy? i just can't get over WATER in my computer fear :( , what if the water leaks out and my whole rig goes BAM BAM!! or later it gets corrosion stuff :(
i'm lookin at some nice air coolin,, my cpu is stable with my vantec aeroflow HSF, 39 idle and max load 41 C.. with 200 FSB, 11X, Vcore 1.75..
any suggestions?

fear of water??? comeon little ninja and get your feet wet :P its fun! jking. I had that HS, it worked well but i couldnt stand the high pitched sound of the fan i needed to cool off the sink. It drove me mad, so hence wetter is better :)

The Swiftech MCX462+T is a decent performer, my biggerst concern with an air cooled TEC is all the heat thats going to be dumped into your case, your going to need serious airflow to get rid of it. On the plus side it would be great to warm your feet if you strategically place the exhaust fans...
You should really consider H20, there is really little to fear, a well assembled water setup with quality components, assembled with a reasonable amount of care, properly tested will be pretty safe. And even if you do have a leak chances are its not going to kill your hardware. Water isn't the instant death sentence you might think.

Yup, plenty of mobos and CPUs have been drenched and survived.
As Ru pointed out, this would be putting 226W of heat in the case plus the heat output of whatever processor you have.On the plus side it would be great to warm your feet if you strategically place the exhaust fans...I take it I'm not the only one who does that :D

As I was frequently reminded before the last LAN party, the name of this site is LIQUID ninjas!;)
if i had the cash for a 1/2" system i would sell you my 3/8" starter kit. it rocks for what it is!

hey notor,
you shouldnt be too worried about ruining your equipment, if things go awry...its always a good reason to upgrade. i mean most of the stuff you have in your compy you would prolly upgrade every six months to a year anyways....so why be so worried about ruining things.
anyways as long as you practice patience when putting together a water cooling kit, you shouldnt have to worry about accidents.
also, the members of this great site are more than willing to give very good and experienced help in the area of water coolin.
once ya get your feet wet, you will pat yourself on the back and wonder why you didnt do it sooner.
just do it, all the cool kids are doing it ;) :peer pressure:

Ahh water is easy :D easy as cake. The Swiftech MCX462+T is good air performer. I know MDZCPA had one to test, maybe we should get him in here to share the experiance.

hey notorious, dont let the guys fool you... plenty of us are air cooled too :D I can see myself switching to water after I graduate in a few years... I am just outta money to waste on my pc. But if you want better air, I just got the thermalright slk-900U and it is an absolute monster... I wish I could keep it, but its for someones system I'm builing. It takes a 92mm cooling fan too... the size of the copper base is enourmous, and the fins spread rediculously wide. For $45 you can't go wrong.

Yeah, they sure work well, thing thats really nice about them is the flexibility in fan choices....

wow.. that is a HUGE heatsink:eek:...umm ok, i'm gettin cpu temps 39C idle and 42C max load...is that thing(900-U) goin to reduce the temps?...also with huge heat sink..the case temps will increase?
notor
ps: still thinkin..i have been reading all kinda reviews on Swiftech and Danger den H2O coolin kits....
Drake

If it doesn't change the idle temp it will probably lower the load, and no, because the HSF transfers heat more effectively to the air there's not as much heat being let off at one time, so the case temps would probably decrease.

i feel like crying..damn..you guys always tell me to do this and i do that... , drake told me to get 800-u and torando 80mm and mike told me to get ABIT board...and now i'm stuck with Asus board....(looks into the mirror and :2guns: :2guns: )

Drake is pretty much right on with his answers, I would expect lower temperatures acrossed the board going with the 900U. Its really an impressive looking/performing piece of copper..
Most all of us speak from experience, most of my purchases are made from info I get on a couple forums, I still make the final decision though. Its just hard to beat first hand experience from real people....
Honestly though, if you have a decent working heatsink now, spending 40+ dollars on the 900U is probably not worthwhile. That cash spent on the 900U would buy a water block:D

Hah, good thinking Ru :)
Don't fret, Notor, by no means do you have a bad system. It's spare parts from when you next upgrade will make a great folding box ;)

Notor, I said it in my last post... and I'll say it again here, you are pushing mighty hard for very little gain. I would consider your attitude towards things to be that of a hard core overclocker... I am not sure blaming the guys on the board is the best thing to do. You have top of the line equipment... and I'm sure you got it all at a good price. I'm sure this is what most of the guys thought you wanted.... after all it is what most custom builders want. If you wanted a bigger boat.... well, you shouldn't have bought the smaller one  If it's pie marks & 3D numbers your after.... go buy a P4 3200 and intel I875 and water cool it. Also throw in a radeon 9800Pro. Selling your mobo for an abit, and selling your 2500 for another 2500 is a bad move, you are going between two equal worlds. what you have right now is a fast affordable system... a lot better than most have. I don't get your dilemma :(

hey dude..thanks for your concern..as i stated in the other thread..i'll stay with this setup and tackle it..no need to sell the board and the cpu...you guys should know i'm only 18 and i tend to run after fast things :P :P
THANKS again guys ;)
PS: the SLK-900-U OR 800-U is not a bad mod..i can sell my vantec aeroflow at the university..:P

Them's the breaks with overclocking sometimes. :(
It happens. It's a bit of skill and a bit luck to get some good #'s
Not that your system is bad by any means. I buy stuff expecting that I will get the default out of it and anything else is bonus. :)
