Site was down from about 8pm EST 7/6 till about 12am 7/7. Seriously lucky that it didnt go down sooner, since I was out of the area.
Server went down due to overheating. All the windows were shut and AC's off. So a few days without any fresh air, and a couple PCs running made it nearly 100 degrees in the house here when I came home. So, 4 hours of downtime, not bad. I expected much worse, being short a router and everything.

More downtime this morning attributed to the nasty MySQL 1030 error. This error happens about once a week or two. I dont know how to stop it from occuring, dont know what causes it. Why it can't repair itself, I dont know. I'll be looking in to it as well.

For anyone interested (and thats not many of you I know), I modified some MySQL settings today. The system is now using about 410m of RAM (and increasing slowly) instead of about 260m like it used to. This means MUCH more SQL data can be cached in memory and we can handle about 400 more sessions at once now. Performance should increase because of this, and Im HOPING that it reduces the nasty PHP/MySQL 1030 bug (a common bug on Win/Linux systems while using MySQL v4), although I haven't found a 'real' solution to that problem. (It seems to be PHP's MySQL handles aren't working properly with Apache or something, and we get random DB corruption on the vBulletin tables). Hasn't actually affected Seti Stats yet, and Im not sure why (less wacky SQL commands like join?).
The downside to all of this is that the system has 512m of ram and Im concerned about it running out soon (I certainly cant run games on this box anymore). The new server will probably have 1g of ram, but thats a couple months down the pipe.
I'm going to make a special php page which will have a password. I will probably be putting this on the mods forum. This will allow ANYONE to recover the 1030 error problem, even if im away or asleep. However, i'm not entirely convinced I want to put this function live like that or not. Might be good for our nocturnal or UK mods though.

Thats why I put my servers in the basement. Unfortunately for you, I know you don't have that option.
