Could someone please help me understand what the heck is up with women? Sometimes I can't understand what my wife is thinking.
We talked one day about getting her a new car, I come home a couple days latter to find a brand spanking new BMW X-5 in the garadge.

O.k., No big deal. but here is what I don't understand.

I go out and buy a new drill at Home Depot and I am the one that gets the "lets talk about the purchases we make before we make them" speach

We "talked" about her need for a new car, never made a choice just the opening conversation on the need and a couple days latter ther is $50k sitting in the garadge, but I go out and buy a freaking $150.00 drill and I get the speech just because I never mention that my old drill had died?

What am I missing here?

Well you guys did talk about purchasing a car right? maybe if you brought up the fact about needing a new drill, and she was just aware that you were going to purchase a new one...then maybe things wouldve been better....just to be aware right?

anyways look positively, the X5 is a sweet SUV and I am sure there will be reason when you find yourself driving it....and glad she purchased one.:)

It appears she is dominating your relationship....
I would simply not tolerate a vehicle purchase from my wife without my being consulted as to what vehicle and talking about what the budget can tolerate and so forth. That's an enormous decision that both life partners should be fully involved with unless permission is given otherwise.

If my wife went out and bought a car like that... it'd be going back quicker than bread thats for sure. Although, it is a nice car. Ive seen a lot of different relationships, some where the money pool is constantly scrutinized by each partener, each purchase accounted for. Not how my wife and I are though. Im a firm beleiver in leaving money out of the relationship, it only leads to problems, and divorce.

Still, its your wifes life, if she wants to pay for the car herself, then I would say more power too her, as long as it doesnt affect the family money situation, which a car like that probably will.

Im sure most girls can understand what a car means, but dont understand drills, or pcs, or things. To her a car is a solid investment, but a drill is just a toy. I dont know...every relationship is different though.

Go drill the car or somethign ;)

I think you need to sit down and explain this dilemma to her just as plainly as you explained it to us. This kinda stuff just begs for open discussion:)

I am not married but A MAN NEEDS HIS TOOLS DAMMIT! bro, maybe you should sit down with your wife and explain to her that power tools are not toys. she might be looking at the situation from a financial perspective, if you believe she is misinterpreting the drill thing then you need to let her know in a constructive manner.

I guess i was more mad about no longer having the money in the bank. We talked about her needing a car but never said lets go get one. I covered my ass today, I tolde her I need a whole new tool set and power tools for the garadge. (picked up the table saw on the way home from work today :) )

Fara, dont bust my chops on this one please?
in my 18 years of "marital bliss" ok 13 legal the rest shacking up.. my wife wanted to handle the checkbook, with the way she grew up with creditors ringing the phone off the hook, i didnt see the harm. we both work full time.
we have NEVER spent more than 100.00 without discussing it except food, clothes for kids and other real essentials first, even a phone call from the store sometimes to eachother.
later in the relationship ya kind of know what the other's reaction is going to be and sometimes you make a stand to get what you want. i found if you can use it more than once and it enhances your life (PC PARTS) its worth sleeping on the couch for a couple days:eek:
i guess what im trying to say is most of the time if there is an open line of communication for needs/wants and more than a couple hundred bucks is at stake, sharing a verbal pros/cons discussion usually helps soften the blow to both parties so there are no suprises.
you are stocking your tool bin at the mercy of her guilt i'm assuming? if so you car need a nitrous kit im sure as well;)
