Intel has the better performance right now, while AMD still holds the bang for the buck crown. Then there's the plucky little VIA C3. What will your next CPU be?

I've been buying AMD for all the boxes I build. I started with a K6-II 350 and have gone up from there.

This was a hard choice for me.. coming from and intel based school system where AMD is the devil. I figure sooner or later i will own a P4 just to mess with.. but my AMD will have to be able to blow it out the water. I've built 1 1/2 Amd machines under $1000 i don't know if that's feesable with a Intel. Since AMD is Faster in my book and a hole lot cheaper...My next system will be an AMD.

Intel 533mhz are speed champs right now, but are still costly. You'd be hard pressed to notice a difference between the highest P4 and the highest AMD in real life anyway. So its AMD for me, in the hopes that T-Breds scale enormously (The XP2500+ is supposed to beat the top Northwood 533s anyway). If only AMD would increase CPU bus to 166, as all of us overclockers know, AMDs can already support this FSB, and the memory bandwidth increase is incredible.

But, AMD focuses on Hammer, and so next year, if you want top dog, you WILL be AMD no questions.

Hi all,

Well at work I have 43 systems and all are Intel, but one, and it is an AMD 1000.

The speeds range from a PII nothing to a P4 2.53 gig.
One would think that the P4 2.53 gig would be fast as hell..........WRONG.

Very disappointing.

Anyway, to make a long story short........AMD all the way.

Besides, since the .13 micron chip came out last week (XP2500+), the heat issue seems much less.

Take care.........

AMD... I might build another rig this fall if the Hammer is delayed until mid-next-year... Otherwise, a Hammer system this winter probably.

Intel is sooooooooooooooo expensive... I was looking at a price chart the other day on the web and I could nearly buy 2 top AMD's for the price of the top Intel. That is insane, whether or not you like AMD or Intel that's just too obvious to ignore. ;)

Hi Spec,

As I get older, I can't remember as many things as before, so.......

If I said :D WELCOME :D before, never mind, if I did not say :D WELCOME :D , then :D WELCOME :D

Take care.........

I've bought 3 AMD CPUs in the past 4 months. The speed is fantastic but the heat sucks. I can't touch any benchmark scores of the liquid dudes. I like the hobby of tweaking, ocing, and modding but how much is enough? For home users I can't understand why CPUs need to be any faster? Ok, so my Word document opens up 5ms faster with my 2200. I have this AMD sickness, the need for more speed.
Does anyone know of any 12 Step AMD Groups to talk me back to sanity? Help!:grab:

Hi deerhunter,

"but how much is enough? "
You can never O/C a CPU enough. It is not a matter of speed. Hell, if I wanted speed, I would buy a faster CPU. Speed is not the main thing, at least for me.
There is a lot of satisfaction in taking a 800 MHz CPU and making that sucker go 1100 MHz. As I said, if I wanted speed, I would buy a faster CPU.

I will give Intel their dues...They run cooler, but you get what ya buy. Can't O/C them as well.
Do you want speed from O/Cing, or cooler and stock?
I want SPEED.

Take care..........

PS.........:D WELCOME:D to LN!! Good to have ya aboard

fara,
I can get mine to 1100 but it's not "prime" stable. The best i can do begin stable is 1090.
