hey all, i got the whole computer setup now, and its running at STOCK speeds, here is a pic..

so how do i O/C this baby? i'm using 2X 256 DDR@400MHZ, Maxtor 80+120 gig hdds, vantec aeroflow heatsink/fan, asus cdrw, antec case with 4X80 mm case fans 365 watt P/S, ati 9600P @ 517/255..umm... and AsusA7N8X DX board.

how can i change the multipiers, and you guys talk about the giving extra voltage to the cpu?? stuff like that.

please help :)

Hi notor,

You will have many replys on this and mine will probably be the least helpful.

But just for starters when you first boot up your system hold down the delete key so you can get into your BIOS. Look around a little and get familiar with the BIOS. Don't change any settings your first time in there just look around.

I got mine going to 2002Mhz just by changing the multiplier in BIOS from an 11 to a 12. Haven't had too many problems with it, although instead of saying "Athlon XP 2500+" in the name string it says "Unknown CPU Type" but I think that's cause this board "does not currently support" the Barton chip. Little do they know.

thanks wacky, i have seen the bios, the multipiers an dthe FSB in the advanced chipset settings, but i'm not sure about changing them:confused: i read couple of threads, and ppl always talk about changing the multipliers and then giving some Xtra voltage to the cpu:confused: i'm confused

hiya Gabriel, thanks, i'll try that, and also your cpu is not identified by the board cus you are using 12X multipiers, if you take a look at this link(damn japanese.., use babel fish to translate..) you can see when you use 12X multipers, there is no listing for any kinda cpu, you can either change it to 11.5X to get a 2600+ cpu or change it to 12.5X multiper to get a 2800+ cpu

here is the link

cheers!

Hi notor,

Do like Gabriel said and bump the multiplier up to 12. Fold for a day and see if you can get it to run stable at that speed without any extra voltage.

or take a look at this pic..

on my way to try a 12.5 Mult right now

Nope, still Unknown, faster, but unknown. I believe this is because I am runnin ABIT KX7-333R which supposedly, according to ABIT, does not support this chip, although here I am typing. Take a look, did manage to pull about 73 more MHZ.

oh, and is 46.5C ok on the temp? not too sure about that

Now you guys got me messin with stuff. Can't seem to stop.

I hope you have your system backed up.

I hosed mine twice already. But my temps are in the 70's.

nah, think I will stay here for a bit, see if it can do some heavy 3D Studio stuff. I find that rendering tends to stress the shi! out of my CPU's, since I never really have a good Graffix card. Only runnin at 47 idle right now. Guess I will see what folding does also.

hiya gab, i think the 40's are ok, i'm using the Vantec Aeroflow heatsink/fan and i get idle 35-36C and at load (folding@home or running prime 95) 39-40C.. and thats the max.. right now i'm using 12.0X multipiers and stock FSB..

Hey guys,
40's C is fine. Its when you get high 50's low 60's you should start gettin scared.

You guys seem to be off to a good start, but I usually drop the multiplier to 10.5 or 11 and up the FSB as much as possable. I'm assuming you both should hit near 180-190 before you start getting into some trouble.

You should only up the voltage when you incounter stability issues, like lockups, and shutdowns. So if you can't fold for 24hrs with an o/c, bump the voltage up to 1.65 or 1.7V.

That should help you out a lil.
