Hey bud,
These are easy as pie.
(EDIT: I always do mine with the tab facing down, much easier.)
First cut sheath back 2inches or so.
next, cut the fiber/sheath off (same 2inches).

Untwist the following wires when putting them in order.
orange white
orange
greenwhite
blue
bluewhite
green
brownwhite
brown

I always do the above order with the tab of the RJ-45 facing down. or away from you. that way you can see the colors.

it usually takes a bit of getting used to, make sure you get the wires in all the way so they touch the metal conductors in the end of the RJ-45.

Any other help? Just ask me, cept the colors on a cross over..lol.

by the way, if you are feeling lazy just use pins 1,2,3 and 6. the rest are useless to you. the orange and green pair are the only ones used for 10/100 cat5 cable

This comes in handy if your builder used cat5 for the phone, they only use 4 of 8 so it's easy to expand the existing wiring to include your lan..

but the current 1000bt uses all 4 pairs.

True, but I'd opt for a 10/100 in leiu of crawling around in an attic in summer to run a line if it's already there in the wall.

I was up there last summer to install a dish, and that prospect brings back some baaaadddd memorys. :D

My file transfer needs aren't that great here at home. The lan is used more for internet connection. Course I'v been accused of being lazy before.......
