Well, finals are finally over (linear algebra boooooooooo) Got a program called SketchUp which im beginning to draw my case design in 3d. The whole cube idea was great, unitil i realized I will probably never use 2 radiators, so its back to the ol classical design, but goin to attempt to make it all user friendly like.
Paint scheme is probably goin to be white, except the first layer is glow in the dark blue.
Still going to go with layer of dynamat, then layer of some type of sound dampening foam (if i can find any that is affordable)
Here is the pic.

cool, now get back to folding. lol, J/K :D looks good, UV reactive acrylic looks really nice.

yea, but that stuff costs way to much. My PSU will be Blue UV reactive. The paint i am using is actually for the model Lexan cars. You first apply the glow in the dark paint, then add a "backer" which seems to be just white. So the comp will actually glow blue in the dark regardless if there is uv lighting near by.
I think i might try and imbed some LED's into the sides of the case anyways, to make it glow that way as well.

*** update ***
Big purple box is just where my 5 1/4" drives will go. Its depth is 8" which was the longest length of my drives. Just to give me a spatial idea of how much room i have to work with
Lower hole is for my radiator.
The lines you see in the back, is where the plexi is cut. That part is attached to the left hand side of the case (looking from the back) The bottom edge will have a hinge so that the entire mobo + cards will swivel down.
Hope that description is clear

I'd make the 5.25 drive cage as short as you can make it while still having all the screw holes. That way you can put the short drives at the bottom, and the cage won't force the cables backward, before going down when they reach the end of the cage. Do you know what I mean?

that actually isnt the cage. just for my own spatial reference. The actual cage will just be like a normal one, where it doesn't get extended all the way back, but just long enough for the screws and support

Poe,
Awsome! I'm in the process of designing a case for project lan2k3. I've come up with some cool ideals and some bad ones too. I need to do it up in cad or something similar like you have. Athou mine is gonna be made out of thin gauged galvinized steel.
I plan on making it about the size of a desktop pc.utilizing a mirco-atx mobo (all old school stuff). Why so big when i'm using micro-atx? B/C its gonna house it's own w/c system. (Hopefully) But still even if it don't , its gonna have an awsome window with the coolest looking hsf I can find. Just something that i've invested Under $100 in for some fun.

hmmm plexi glass cases..... I am in the process of making my own and I think i have about 3 months work left. However word of advice glueing plexi glass sucks unless yuo half ass it and use super glue or something. The right way with weld-on or methaline choloride is dificult since you need a syring and the glue itself forms a quick chemical bond and has the consistancy of water. Your design seems simple enough since its flat sufaces but stay away from compound miters and such.
Also you should try building a case in solid works. Your school probally has it in the engineering lab as does mine... It a great program but may be a bit overkill.
